I am going to purchase a new insert because I need longer burn times with less daily maintenance. But this won't be til next season and blaze king princess as of right now is at the top of my list. Just have a few questions for people that have one.

Will it heat 1600sq ft single level ranch with half decent insulation?

Will it heat it to 75 degrees or better and be able to maintain that temperature overnight?

What other pros and cons are there with the BK princess insert?

I am not dead set on getting a BK, I am definatly open to suggestions. But my needs are long burn times of GOOD usable heat (wife likes the house on the warm side), less maintenance, would like to be able to load it and have it auto adjust the draft to maintain a good consistant temperature. If there are any other inserts that can do this I am all ears.

Thank you.

The Blaze King products are the only stoves available with this kinda sustained heat... The only thing I would like to see improved is the air wash, the glass will get dirty, (on the freestanding stoves at least) this is a small price to pay for the unbelievable burn times.

Yes to your questions, although it depends on your outside temp. Neg is you are running the fan on the insert all the time. It will heat your home with long burn times. Its below 0 with a inside temp of 70. My house is a 1931 with poor insulation. You will like the insert, nice burn times depending on how much heat your gonna need and how much wood you load up. I should get a 8 hour burn tonight with temps below 0. I am burning crappy basswood right now....

What kind of burn times can I expect with a fully loaded high burn? Would 10 hours on high be too much to ask or expect?

There isn't a bigger insert model than the princess is there?

You will not get 10 hour burns on high.. My buddy runs his in the normal range and gets 10 hour burns. I would say that on high, wide open you could burn up a load in half that time although it would be hot hot hot.. You should find someone close to you with one of these and go take a look at it in person. You might decide that you can run on less than full out and get the job done.

With my insert I only burn on high for short periods of time. The cat gets way to hot when you burn on high. You will never get 10 hours out of a high burn. The princess insert and the stove are very different. The insert is sitting inside your fireplace and this will make the cat burn hotter.

If it 30 plus degrees outside temps, I can get 12 to 14 hours burn time.

Todays its cold, 6 degrees with 20 mile an hour winds. I am home today and will be happy to get a 6 to 8 hour burns. My T-stat is between middle and low. Its 72.5 degrees in my house. Its a good insert, when its really cold out your not gonna get those big burn times. We are going to 20 below tonight and my house will be warm!

The king guys get 12 when it it really cold. Have you thought about getting the King!

I have consider the king but I have no place to put a stand alone stove it does not come as an insert does it?

Not to hijack the thread, but I've been looking at this insert to possibly replace my Englander for the same reasons as the OP and I have a question: Does this insert have a noticeable fire going while it is burning or is the wood just kind of smoldering in there through much of the burn cycle? I have gotten used to the rather spectacular secondary burns of my insert and am wondering what the fire behavior is like on these Blaze Kings.

Mine has lots of fire if you want to burn that hot.

How many sqft are you heating with it?

I am heat the main level about 1450. We love the insert, cannot believe you can heat the house with a few sticks of wood. Loaded the insert at 6a, reloaded at 3p. Gonna reload again before bed. Its -8 right now! This is my second insert, my first insert was to small and required reloads all the time. The thing that I like about the BK is when the wood turn to coals you can still pull good heat out of it.

I have one! I'm heating 1600 sqft single story. 1200 is living space, 600 garage. 2x6 walls with fiberglass insulation, crawl space with insulated foundation, cathedral ceiling in house with 12" fiberglass. The house isn't very tight compared to modern buildings. Mine was built in 68. I don't have a very open floor plan so I can't move the heat around very well. I'm keeping the living room at 75+ and other rooms (kitchen, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, laundry) about 60-65. Garage stays about 50 (I have fans to blow air from garage into house and return). Right now it's -36 outside and has been for a few days. We have been averaging 2.5 full loads per day. I'm burning pallets, so I'm not sure what types of wood I'm burning.

Your burning pallets like shipping pallets? Compared to the temperatures you guys are seeing out side my winters are very mild. We VERY rarely go into the single digits in NJ, almost never go below zero. So i am starting to think that the princess just might be the way for me to go unless i can find a place to put the king (not likely). I notice that there website says 16" logs only is this true or can you get away with 18" splits as well.

Good question. I like secondary burns also.it looks magical.

You are only going to get that kind of flame action when you are burning hot. This is the same load of wood showing the difference between high burn and med-low burn. It is not unusual to have what looks like a dead fire with just glowing wood heating your house. If you want the light show, you will either need to turn the tstat up and deal with the heat or put less wood in the stove and have a smaller hotter fire with a shorter burn.

What do the Blaze King Princess Inserts go for? I've been looking too. Have you looked at the Briarwood II insert? Like the option of 22 inches of burning power.

Wow, just called my local dealer for BK products and they said $3600 over the phone with shipping and tax included. And that was shipping to THEIR place... Kinda crazy? I'm torn between Cat and Non Cat... Heat for the house is 100% wood. Maybe time to upgrade for next season for the Cat benefits...

BLAZE KING SECONDARY BURN VIDEO
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oodVrxoUZKY

I just put this on youtube. The Youtube version displays much darker than the original recording, but shows the secondary combustion in my King parlor 4 hours into a full load of hard maple.

Like the previous still photo shows, you can have a lot of flame with your thermostat/air setting towards the high setting. A lot of flame means a lot of hot and a faster burn of the fuel load. A half hour after a full load on hot coals and the stat full open, my firebox interior can be described as somewhat violent, and the stovetop goes past 700, even with the fans on high speed. With the secondary flame going (like in the video), the stovetop will be from 600-650. This secondary burn does not always happen, and when it does, the time it lasts varies quite a bit.

that price of 3600 sounds like price gouging to me I have seen them online for 2700

I just got my princess, I paid $2700 for it and that included delivery. I probably could have found it online cheaper or a little farther away, but I like my dealer and I figure if I had any issues I could call them. I also purchased it in time for the 30% tax credit. So in reality I gave a little under $1900 for it.

Don't go king. It will be too big.

"that price of 3600 sounds like price gouging to me I have seen them online for 2700 "

Where have you seen the Princess Insert for sale online? I called Blaze King and they do not sell their products through internet resellers. Any online posting will restrict sale to that dealer's geographical territory. Their policy is a big negative as I usually only purchase online where I can shop for the best price. I did visit a local dealer here in Pittsburgh and they quoted a price of $2,499 for the insert, $300 for the basic door and $299 for the surround.

dont remember exactly but you can google it and there is only one seller that has the price listed.

those secondaries look pretty good in the video. Not bad at all, that is on low?
