A neighbor told me he has heard a lot of complaints on the new Stihl saws. Apparently it has something to do with the carb. He claims loss of power and not being able to idle worth a hoot. He found one of last year's model saws and even though he did not need one, he bought it just so he would not be concerned when his old saw gave out.

361 is a little funny (likes to spin at idle) but replace by the 362. Other than than I havent heard anything about idle issues.

The 261 I've run hasn't had any problems.

Is this just general gossip, or is there a specific model he's referring to?

He stated it was all the new models. He states there was some changing they were forced to make to meet emission standards and it has screwed up the saws a bit. I sort of doubt it is as bad as he claims but was just wondering if anyone else had run into this.

Main problem I see is the new Stihls are generally a good bit heavier than the non-strato versions. A tad more power to make up for it, though...

Had a stihl dealer tell me , last year will be the last year for good stihl saws.

No, it was a dealer in the Greenville, NY area. Being leaned out, they'll never run the long life, like they use to. I've been in that Agway but never visted the saw department in their new store yet. Old store for a rim sprocket once. Good people?

Saw emissions.....you'd think people are driving them down the road....LOL!

I think so . . . better than my local dealer.

The new shop is too clean though. While I was there today, 3 college chicks came in wanting to rent a slurry machine. Nice, um, well, you know . . .

Aint that peachy, glad we are doing our part for the good of the green.

I don't think the new strato saws run leaner. I thought the technology was designed to separate the charge materials from the discharge materials so that unburnt material is kept in the engine instead of out the exhaust. This means it runs neither richer nor leaner.

There are some good people that work there. Sharon Springs Garage is also good for Stihl.. that's where I got my 290.

Good to know! My Stihl's been so go ,I never really need anything. A chain ,bar and rim sprocket is usually about it. But I'll check them out next time too.

The one on Route 20 in the Town of Sharon. They even sent me a thank you card, though a lot of businesses are doing that now as part of their customer keeping strategy.
I haven't been to any other locations, so I can't make a direct comparison.

2-strokes are all on the EPA no-no list. Catalytic converters on streetbikes are the latest
EPA nazi stroke of genius. Now there's catcons on chainsaws.

That is why I believe in buying either older saws, or new old stock if you can find it.

motorcycles have taught me one thing. Carburetion just gets leaner and leaner every
year until a. they get EFI b. they discontinue the model c. the whole technology goes away.

Everyone will be required to buy an EPA stove, an electric chain saw, and a electro-hydraulic splitter
before joining hearth.com starting next year lol. Also smokinjay will give you a full body examination with his carrhardt gloves on

My only complaint about Stihl saws is that I only have one of them. But my MS390 with Muffler Mod, running a 16 inch bar tears through my oak and hickory. Fires up every time after about three 'practice" pulls. Love it.
