Why is choosing a new insert so hard? Why must one research til their eyes burn? Why why why???? Jus venting a little, I was dead set on what new insert I wanted then the more I'm on here the more stoves I wouldnt mind trying!

Its not hard. You just look for a unit that will fit your needs. Price, efficiency, Enviroment ... figure out what your needs are and go from there.

16 hour burn times and a lot of heat when I'm home. I was stuck on the BK princess but I read that the insert will not get the same burn times as the free standing BKs. Also that if your wood isnt super dry then it might be more of a PITA than anything, I'm burning seasoned wood but I dont know if its seasoned enough for a cat stove and I dont have much room to stack around here. I got a half acre its jus layed out funny, I dunno what to do!

My buddy has the princess insert, I have the freestanding model.. He likes his even more than I like mine. It works well, smolders all day and then heats like a monster at night.. Really a nice unit..

The BK insert is the same stove as the freestanding Princess without the legs. You should get same burn times. A good way to stack a lot of wood in a small space is a Holtz Hausen. Couple of these will get you a couple years ahead and good dry wood.

You are incorrect. the firebox is NOT the same.. There are a few differences but they still add up to the same volume..

Instead of a straight line, it's a circle. Where's the patience come in? Plan a little bit and your storage space is solved.

Well I guess there is none when you say it like that, it just looks complicated :p

But a great place for a party.

Allot depend on your home. Well insulated air tight walls, Sq ft, windows, door seals, attic insulation etc.
I have a BK king/catalytic, a buddy has the insert. His house is as warm as mine & he gets long burn times.
Little different house lay-out, same good long burn times with good heat.
I may get a few hour longer burn times but the king holds more wood.
I know he's very happy with his. I believe his is the Catalytic one.

It's not tough, your just procrastinating :) LOL
We all do it. Took me a year to get the table saw I wanted, got the one I started wanting to begin with. Glad I did. I'm still looking
to get a new chain saw, been a year +, I even know the one I want, just waiting for hell to freeze over I think.

"GET ER DONE" for crying out loud. Winter is gonna be over soon, then you'll procrastinate more.

When the wife gets tired of you waffling which way to go, she'll say "go the with the one you want". "I'm tired of hearing about it"
Then she can blame you, but she will any/either way.

Good luck
I think the Bk is a quality unit. Others swear by them. Can't be to far wrong if you go that way. Blame bogydave or jtb51b or our buddies. :)

Its called procrastination

+1 . . . they really aren't all that much harder to build or longer . . . in fact in some ways they can be easier . . . you can toss the punks, chunks and uglies into the center and you don't have to search for that perfect split when building the end caps.

Hmmmm . . . whining about having too many choices? ;) :)

Of course I actually do hear you . . . having to decide what type of tech, what type of stove material (steel, cast iron, soapstove) and figuring out what features you want and perusing through the many different manufacturers . . . and then wondering if you will mess up and end up buying a stove you hate . . . many of us have been there . . .

because there are so many variables, and because you want to make the right decision. Feels like running a computer program a zillion times, shift a comma here, add a what-if there. It will be worth it all a year from now--it's just a miserable process to be going through. Kinda like childbirth just before you puke, if that analogy is helpful; it means that progress is afoot. Expect some action here shortly.

BK Princess seems like a can't-go-wrong choice if you are forced by circumstances or a wife-gone-nuts-from-hearing-about-it to choose.

Of course, there's always the Hearthstone insert . . .
