I set the aquastat to shut the damper at 205 °F . My general load goal was (4) 14-16" Oak ronds, 18". No Uglies unless I was there to babysit.I loaded every 4-6 hours. When I say load, I don't mean it needed 4 fresh pieces. I simply added to keep the general 4 piece idea going.

Observations?

This morning weather.com has my city at -9 °F . Decks are bangin' and popin' all night. All zones are at t-stat set points. Mrs had 140 °F DHW for morning ritual. Gone through more wood volume than I would like, but not as much as I was afraid I would. Still got a bunch of wood outside the boiler room that needs cutting to size or splitting.

Possibly in line with Pat, I find gurgling noises when the GW approaches 200. When the damper shuts the gurgling diminishes and about 20-30 seconds after, stops.

As with the rest of the heating season so far, this has been the best year at handling the Cold Snap. The oil burner has been unplugged the entire time :cheese:

Rock on!

Set my aquastat at 195 yesterday.Put 4 big Cherry rounds at 8:30 pm last nite. Went out at 5am to check it still up in the 180s had i piece left to burn, pushed it to the rear and put on 2 big Ash rounds and a Maple. I will be around the house till 10:30 am till I go to work,so no biggy from now till then. With the wind from the west yesterday at about 0 degrees, fan was running quite a bit more than usual. O well house still stayed at 73 no prob. I am nearly halfway thru my wood for the season, been up and burning since Oct 16. I have no prob w switching over to oil come late april or may here. I do mechanical work on a friends fuel oil truck thru out the year.

28 below here and my back-up gas boiler never came close to kicking on. I loaded the Tarm at 10 or so and went to bed and the storage tank temp was 155 this morning.

I love wood heat...

I too turned up the GW to 195 and loaded her right up with 3 big, 14-15" hickory rounds and a couple 6"ers at 6:30 pm between the football games. Had water temps of 125º at 7:30 this morn while it was -11º outside. I did turn the heat down to 68 from 75 b4 bed though. I love hickory.

This my 4th year with the Adobe & since I replaced the skins after the first yr
it sort of redeemed itself . I like the fact it can handle the big rounds.
I would have to be convinced of burning a lot less wood before I would opt
for a fancy Euro gasser where I would have to split most of the wood.
By the way Jimbo do you have any concerns about blowing your pex at 205?
Since this forum seems to be the official R&D for this boiler COULD YOU
PLEASE SOLVE THE DIRTY HEX ISSUE THANK YOU.
Mad Dan From Newfoundland

The only Pex my GW water touches is the Thermo-Pex. I've wondered about the effects of the hotter water. I'll turn my aquastat back down sometime before tomorrow morning.

Dirty-Ex?? You have me confused with someone else ;-)

Any and all wood boilers are happiest when they are running pretty much flat out. It's the nature of the beast.
