Not just next week but for a few weeks. We've not had much snow at all here this winter so am hoping for more of the same. I just got word that next Monday I will be getting a new hip so that might cut into my time for wood cutting and even tending the stove. So the wife will have to handle all of it for a while but I have faith in her ability to do so. My biggest concern is with snow plowing if that is needed. Guess I'll be showing her a few new tricks this week...

Dennis I hope everything goes well, if I was close by I would lend you or Mrs. Sav. a helping hand.

Hope it works out for you BW, gonna get cold again next week.

Dennis, good luck with your surgery. Last time I checked you were 7 years ahead with the woodpile, take a break.

Thanks fellas. Bluefrier, you are correct and this is just one more reason I preach to get ahead on your wood pile. What if something happens and some year, or years, you can't get out there to take care of the wood supply? In our case, there is no problem. I'll have extra wood on the porch and if that isn't enough, there is plenty of wood inside the barn and it is only a very short distance from the porch. Mrs. Backwoods Savage will get along just fine.

I hope all goes well! Obviously if you guys need anything just give me a shout! I'm just a hop, skip and a jump away. :)

Thanks rdust. I might need a hand moving some wood and will give a shout if needed. It is nice to know we have friends.

well, I live a little farther away than Oxford, but I only work two days a week. I'd be happy to lend a hand. Got some extra seasoned wood if you run out :p

You take care there, Mr. Backwoods. Follow Dr. directions to the "T" for recoup time after surgery. We have a friend who had this done about 5-6 yrs. ago. She is now 83(?) a still running around like an Energizer Bunny but we almost had to tie her down there for awhile after the surgery because she felt so good so soon after the surgery.

Again, take care! While I live too far to help with your wood I will 'try' to send some warm weather your way. :)

Sir I pray it works out well for you.Take that cod liver oil full of vitamin d.Good for the bones.Yes I'll have to give my wife a refresher course in loading the stove. Can't have folks get overly dependent on me.One never knows when one has to step up while the other is down.Take care.

Dennis, I hope all goes well next week.
Your new name may have to be Bionic Savage.
If I was closer, I'd help anyway I could. It's not like you need wood though.
Mrs. Bionic can handle things while you're laid up, I'm sure.

WOW! that sure came up quick, hey? the last time i spoke with you, you said it was coming up, but who knew it was this soon??
you can tell by all the responses you are getting that you have much support and will certainly be in the thoughts AND prayers of many.
mom had this done along with both knees replaced while she was in her 80's. not all at the same time, of course. she is remarkable! to this day, in the warm months, she will drag wind-downed branches from her yard and cut them up with a bow/brush saw! she is at the point of her life where the furnace runs 12 months a year...with the occasional wood fire every month!!
what i'm getting at is that in no time at all, you will be back out to your woods! (probably sooner than you want, right?). you'll see...and mrs. ornery, don't worry about running that chain saw, hubby will be back out there before june. i'll bet she is glad to hear that, huh dennis? but wait a minute-isn't she the one who wanted you to buy the larger model 4-wheeler??? you don't think that....naw,...but...aww, never mind!
please do find the time to log on next monday and let us know everything is alright?? and like everyone else, i really do wish i was closer to help out.

Gook luck, Dennis. If for any reason you run short on wood, we'll each chip in and mail you a split. Any preferences?

Dennis, hope all goes well and you have a quick and speedy recovery. Met a man today who had hip surgery 3 weeks ago and was walking around quite well just using a cane. :)

Get back up and around soon buddy. And I know that you are as surprised as I am that Jake hasn't jumped in and said that sitting on that milk case is what did your hip in.

I wasn't going to say it!

Take good care and heal well Dennis. Hope the operation is a great success. If the snow is heavy, have it plowed. You wife will be under enough stress taking care of the fire and a cranky ole man. :)

Speedy recovery.

Speedy recovery!

My Dad who is 50 started getting pain about 10 years ago in his hip. He blamed it on a fall in 1990 when some scaffolding collapsed and he fell about 15ft directly on his feet. Anyhow the last couple years it's been getting worse and my Mom finally convinced him to go see the Dr.

Well his body is starting to attack his hip, something called bone necrosis. Also major arthritis in hip and back. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avascular_necrosis

They said he will need a hip in the new few years or he will be likely wheelchair bound. So far planning to tough it out for another few years until retirement (in 2 years he will have done 30 years at the plant and will be able to retire)

Good luck and a speedy recovery Dennis. I would give you a hand moving some wood .....but.... by the time I got to your home from PA you would be a popsicle.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. I was happy to have been several years ahead in wood when I had back surgery a couple years ago - it was a relief not to have the stress of worrying about firewood c,s&s and also a pleasant surprise at the friends who came out of the woodwork and helped us during our time of need.

You're a good man Rdust . . . then again it's all part of "paying it back" and "paying it forward" -- I remember how Dennis helped you a year or so ago . . then again . . . maybe you Michiganites are just plain nice folks.

At times even I will bite my lip . . . even if clearly sitting in one place causes great injury to hips. ;) :)

On a serious side . . . get well soon . . . you have to get better so we can possibly meet up at Woodstock this year.

Good luck Dennis... and a speedy recovery!

Anthony
