i was just at lowes tonight and they have a englander 25-ep stove there. my question is do you guys think the 25-ep would be a good upgrade from the 25 pdvc i have now? does anyone have experiance with both stoves? i plan to watch this stove at lowes because they will start clearancing their seasonal heating items soon.(i bought my 25pdvc for 50% off)

The EP (Evolution Pellet) stove is the latest design from Englander. It uses the "conventional" single auger design and drop chute for the pellets.

A definite step "up" from the PDVC, which has been around a LONG time.

I'm looking to do the same thing but the wifey keeps telling me no! If I see it for the right price, I'm going to have to pull the trigger on it. Those ep units, refurbed, can be had on ebay for around $1100 and I think Mike personally goes over those refurb units......you can't go wrong with one of those either.......

i can definatly see how a single auger with a drop chute would be better than a 2 auger system.. no more carbon build up on the auger tube and that annoying squealing noise that it causes.

imacman do you think the EP will be a cleaner burning stove? my pdvc has always burned on the rich side since it was new and i've been playing with it for 3 seasons now with little improvement to the burn quality.

The EP was designed by one of Englanders newest young engineers, Corie......he is also a member on this forum.

As of right now, I didn't see any on ebay except brand new units, and they are about $50 more expensive than what I see at Lowes.

Yes.

In addition, I THINK that the EP also has the option of Hi-Lo, or On-Off burning, like my 10-cpm. Mike Holton would have to confirm that, though.

i had thought about calling mike to ask him about the ep but he is a hard man to get ahold of this time of year

Yes....VERY hard.

Best bet is to cross your fingers that he pops onto the forum.....if he does, it's usually later in the evening, like now.

the only thing that i see is that it could have a larger hopper.

I`m kinda fond of my PDVC , where it is out in the back shop , but I`d be willing to bet the farm that the EP is a definite improvement.

Hi Guys, I have a EP, and my Father has a PDVC,

I choose the EP BC its looks much nicer with a bay window, it operates on a single auger system, it has a pretty good size ash pan when the PDVC I dont think has one. So far i love it im heating a 2000 sq ft colonial and so far so good, there are a couple negatives like every stove has but overall im glad i bought it. still have 3/4 left in oil tank and had it filled way back on Nov 3rd only use oil for water now. if you have any questions about the stove i can answer ask away..

i'm eyeballing an ep at lowes right now.. just waiting for that clearance sale to start on pellet stoves.. they have already strarted to clear out the electric fireplaces and some other "seasonal" items so the time is very near.. keep your fingers crossed for me that no one buys it before this

I own both. Made a minor mod to the burnpot of the ep and it burns very clean and hot. Heat output and reliability are nearly the same with a slight advantage to the ep.

Can someone explain how the High/Low and Therm mode really works i mean what should i exspect ?

You can run with a thermostat in either of two modes: on/off or hi/lo

When the thermostat calls for heat:
In both modes the stove runs at your selected heat level.

When the room reaches your thermostat setting:
In on/off mode, the stove shuts down and the fire will go out
In hi/lo mode, the stove runs at a very low level "maintenance burn".

The hi/lo mode's low maintenance burn continues to burn pellets and sometimes may heat the room more than you want, but the stove will respond more quickly when the thermostat calls for heat again

Edit: Just noticed the response in your other thread: https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/25-ep-soot-glass-and-huge-flame.132118/page-2#post-1792241
