Realizing everyone on here does not go on the Hearth Room, I thought I'd post here too.

Just one more reason why I have several years wood supply on hand. I've been able to cut very little this year and it appears I've done the last cutting for a while. I will be having a hip replacement next Monday so will also be off line for a few days. I am also having shots in my neck to try to take care of a nagging problem there so we've been going through some interesting times.

But I do hope a lot of folks do take this to heart. Get ahead on your wood supply ASAP. We already have a couple others from up north who have had back surgery this winter and they won't be cutting for a while either. Thankfully they are doing well and I hope I can do even better.

Cheers guys. All will be well.

Good luck on the surgery Sav. And a speedy recovery too.
Orthopedic surgery is pretty amazing these days. My dad had a hip replacement way back in the late 70's. They did it with steel back then, he had it re-done about 8 years ago with ceramic and said the recovery was quicker even though he was quite a bit older. The new hip works better too.

Backwoods, I take heed in gettin gahead to not have to worry about it. I love that money in the bank feeling. makes me feel better for the 'end of the world' fear mongers and muck rakers of the world today...at least I will be warm (im so close to DC if something bad is to happen i imagine Warmth isnt going to be the problem...)

good luck with the hip, hoep they give you a good one. I hope you have some youngsters, like myself, that will come cut or help you stack and move wood. maybe learn a thing.

good luck, god bless. stay warm

Well we have plenty on hand and plenty of offers for help; one from rdust!

On the hip surgery, I also had one done in 2004 and it has been trouble free. It takes a while before you can do much following surgery but they recommended me to walk as much as possible. It took a while to work up to a mile but once there it was all downhill from there and easy going. I was even hanging tree stands 2 months after surgery!

That old saying "make hay while the sun shines" also rings true when cutting your firewood for the season (or 2-3 yrs or more ahead if possible). When I have the spare time & the weather isnt too bad,I cut whenever I can.Its like when I get the chance to work a bunch of overtime,I never turn it down cause any money saved will help get me through when work is slowed down later on.

Stay strong Dennis, you deserve a rest & I hope your recovery goes smoothly. My middle older brother had both knees replaced in August,he just went back to work delivering mail earlier in the month after 3 months off & daily therapy. Its a slow climb back, but it takes time to build your strength back up.

Speedy recovery! If it would ever come down to it I am sure we could get a posy up there. If I could just find someone that knew how to run a saw! lol heck splitter for that matter.
Hope Your Vertical ASAP!

Hey Jay, I could teach you really quick! lol

+2 Dennis. Best wishes for your up coming experience. Thanks for your support for us two northern broken down men/boys at heart. As far as wood goes, 17 cords are parked and ready. I may only process a few this spring and do more fishing until I feel 100%. I am gonna save my body for work. The one thing that's funny about all this is the wood processing has probably kept me in the best shape to make it through all this.
Cheers.

No fishing here but I do hope to be able to ride the bike if and when Spring gets here.

Best wishes and speedy recovery Dennis.

Good luck Dennis and wishing you well!

best wishes and speedy recovery with the hip. something tells me you'll be back out with the new quad and saw in no time.

Pick me up on your way north. Sounds like a good time ! Good luck B.S.

best wishes for a speedy and full recovery Dennis. It's medical sciences turn to give to you what you have given to wood burning science. I bet you will even convert a few of the hospital staff to wood burning while you are there. Keep us posted as you see fit.

good luck and speedy recovery Dennis.

Good luck Savage! I've dislocated my hip twice skiing around 12 yrs ago so I'll probably be getting a hip replacement sometime in the distant future...if I just have a 1/4 of the size of your stockpile at that point then I would be happy.

There's a word in Yup'ik that became the title of a book on the subsistance lifestyle of these people who live on the southwest coast of AK: upterrlainarluta, meaning `always getting ready'. You make a few trips around the sun, you learn a few things, one of which is simply that things can happen. One of the sayings I've inculcated into my children's consciousness through dint of many repetitions is, "better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it".

You'll be missed. Wishing you the best for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

Good luck with your surgery, I hope it goes as well as your last one.

Shipper

good luck with the surgery and here's hoping for a speedy recovery

Hope the surgery and results are at least a good as the first one!
There's no doubt that knee replacement is in my future and that's a major incentive to me to keep cutting as much as I can. I have the room to store a lot of wood so there really is no excuse for me to not be prepared. Also, let's face it that anything can happen to anybody on any given day that may take you "out of commission" for awhile so if you have the time and space why would you not be way ahead?

Best wishes to you Dennis. I was hoping to be able to stop by on the way to the farm last year but the timing just didn't work out. But it would be great come out this spring and spend a day or two in the woods with you!

Billy
