Have had a full season of clinker issues (as some of you have tried to help me solve) with Barefoots this year. I have found through trial and error that no clinkers are forming while using corn setting. On corn setting ignitor stays lit quite longer. Anyone have any idea if the ignitor will burn out faster in this mode?

it may because it is on much longer, but the first two years I burned, I was on corn and the ignitor lasted for the 2 years, burned out just before the warranty was out, the second one burned out after just 2 weeks on hardwood pellet setting, so who really knows?

maybe it would last longer if you have the new pot design as thats supposed to prolong ignitor life.

I agree on the firepot. When was the last time the stove had a thorough cleaning including the exhaust path and removing the exhaust blower? How old is the stove. What is the control board version? Replacemnent parts carry a 90 day warranty, fyi. Do you have the newer style ashpan latches, is your firepot base tight to the firepot bottom? For more info on the igniter issue look over ar iburncorn.com at the old and new forum.

exhaust path weekly, blower removed monthly, stove is 2008, dont know what the control board version is. latches are the original ones, and yes firepot is tight.

Ashpan latches are more like a cabinet style roller latch now rather than the metal clip type. That can't be bent and supposedly they hold the ashpan in more securely. pelletkrzd, 2008 model should have a current control board and sounds like you may need the updated firepot. Should be a warranty deal if you've gone through three igniters in 2 1/2 years. Doesn't hurt to ask anyhow. On the corn setting you can plan on one igniter a year at least whether you have a new pot or not. Keep a spare on hand just in case.

thanks----latches are new style, just replaced them under warranty as a matter of fact because one of the rollers broke. I believe firepot is new style, housing for ignitor has holes drilled into sides and a washer for spacing.

The newest style firepot has openings on the outer edge to allow for more air past the igniter and also a larger opening on the inside of the housing. See pics. You may have to get a mirror and light to see this.

My original igniter burned out last week, just 5 days short of my 2 year warranty expiring. My dealer gave me a new igniter and I just picked up the new style fire pot today (they were on order but hadn't arrived yet). I'll be replacing it at the next good cleaning. I am interested to compare the new and old side by side.
