NP Pete,

This year is you fellas on the East Coast. Glad your stepping up and taking your turn.

Eric

Everything is getting a work out this season. Snowblower, genny, woodstove, back and broke 2 dang shovels so far. Went to lowes for a new one! Errrr. All I could get was bags of salt/calcium. Found one at a mom and pops hardware store. Left a tip on the counter as I walked out! :)

I'll believe it when I see it, that last big storm was kind of a flop up here, eastern MA got nailed though.

Accuweather is showing just 3 or 4" for my area.
I hope they are right. No place left to put the snow.

Pete, Check your pellet stash! :cheese:

This is why I moved South..
It hit 70 degrees here today.
But believe me we've had our share of snow, Ice and cold temps.
My old home town in Gloucester has had temps equivelant to here in Waxhaw.......Till this weekend.

Bundle up all my NE friends...BEER is a staple as important as bread, milk and eggs. :)

I've been out of service since last week... broken differential. I'm supposed to load Tuesday but they are talking 18" of snow for Chicago.... I have to run right thru that... no thanks!

That was #2 on my original list....got 1 1/2 tons of Barefoots and about 25 bags of Rockies all snug in the basement. Then there's the 3 tons of CleanFires out in the pellet shed....not as easy to get to, but if I have to.........

I dont mind the snow but I have to say it sucks bad when it snows every week...Whenever they threaten snow, the day and the day after is dead at work...being flat rate, this sucks balls

There is a good chance of a major ice storm out of this one as well. Snow is one thing, ice is a different matter entirely.

Saw our local forecast this evening. Two storms. One Tuesday with 2-4 inches and one Wednesday 8-12 inches. Smokey, I hope there isn't any ice in this storm! I swear I still have PTSD from the ice storm in '98 that left us with no heat or water for a week. Had a k-1 heater that kept the house about 50 F so our pipes didn't freeze. The rest of the "innovations" are too disgusting to talk about. Lucky for us, Lucus Tree has been here for the past week and cut the limbs near the power line. Wish I had a generator at times like this. I think I could swing it for the generator, but the electric board has to be modified to keep power from feeding back into the system. Someone told me I could throw the master circuit breaker and plug the generator into the dryer outlet, but I'm not comfortable that I won't get spikes that might destroy things like my refrigerator etc. Already have my stash of batteries, water, food, gas and, yes, fresh K-1 and the CO2 detector tested.
It is what it is.

save$.

I also hope there isn't any ice up this way. I had enough in '98 as well, although it wasn't as bad for us as it was for a lot of folks, we've also missed the last several major outages because of the feed redundancy at the substation just a short distance from here.

Fortunately my house was built with an interlock set on the power panel and a nice outlet outside. So a generator was planed for, in fact that is how they managed to build the place.

I got my generator earlier this month, assembled what had to be assembled loaded it with oil and gasoline, fired it up and took a look at its output, shut it down, went inside and made a phone call. That was on January 18. The unit was running electrically hot, over voltage and over frequency. The manual (yep that fine manual) said to call them, so I did, they were out straight so a week later I get a call back from them, I guess they decided that I was the owner of one of their units and they were going to tell me how to adjust the idle speed on it (simple, I had already located information elsewhere and figured if push came to shove I'd be a bad Bear and do the adjustment). So since today was a relatively warm day I rolled the unit out and fired it up and made the adjustment. The generator has all of 17 minutes on it.

Oh well it is ready.

I'm still *issed off at the lack of that information in the manual.

Best wishes to you eastern folks -- you definitely don't need anymore. Looks like just south of St. Louis will be getting .5" to over 1" of ice. St. Louis - ice with 8-12" of snow. My area (NW of St. Louis) is due for ice then 12-24". Blizzard conditions in Chicago. Calling for -7F Wed night (that means -10 to -12 for us). I know that's sunbathing weather for some of you but pretty cold in these parts. Just today I picked up a Honda EU2000i generator for the stove. I can guarantee we will be without power for an extended length of time. Rural areas always drop to the bottom of the 'restoring power' list.
