With the 10% it's 188 and I don't know what brand they have and some of the locations in NH have no inventory.

Woodpellets.com has Maines choice for 199 a ton for 3+ tons. How are these burning for people this year?

I hate to do it but I am not sure what the prices will be next year and I think I want to stock up.

I have the PF100 and it eats any pellet so I have that going for me.

Thoughts????

That's crazy that they are raising prices when they want to clear their shelves for spring crap from China. It's pure greed knowing that it was and still is a hard winter and they have you by the short hairs. I have no compassion for greedy people. I also have 3 1/2 tons ready for next year at $187/ton. :) plus a ton+ for the rest of this winter.

HD and Lowes raised at the same time. I am going to wait until they drop it back down. With the current price increase I think buying much better quality pellets at other places for $20 to $40 more is a better deal.

...........And you are SURPRISED that they would raise their prices at this time of year? "Supply and Demand" rules.

Normally they try to dump all of the pellets about now, they have to make room for their beach umbrellas and swimming pool supplies.

I think that is a little harsh. If you owned a store, you may do the same thing. We live in a free market economy that has given us lots of great things for great prices. If HD and Lowe's raise their prices too high, there are others that will bring the prices back down. The pellet industry is growing and is very dynamic right now. No one person or company is going to control this market.

FYI - that "greedy" price is still lower than what they (HD and Lowe's) are charging in West Virginia so I buy mine at a local supplier!

I say let the market take care of itself and relax. Stop trying to make villains out of folks making a buck.

We presently sell 9 different brands of wood pellets. Some of the prices have moved up a little and some have gone down.
Supplies of Coal are getting a little tight and pricing has gone up a little. In fact we just limited all of our customers who burn chestnut to 10 bags only until this Thursday when we will be getting our next load.

Compressed firewood, Envi Blocks, BioBricks, and Wood Brick Fuel are a little higher.
Dry Creek, Currans, and New England Wood Pellets are selling for less than they were 2 weeks ago.

In a couple of weeks many of big box stores will be running out so we will be getting much busier, especially selling small quantities.
I know that their business model is much different from mine.
I find it hard to believe that any business that sells a product such as wood pellets that are used for such a basic necessity as heat would purposely run out in the middle of the heating season. This would especially be true if you had sold that same customer a stove.

We have many many customers you can only afford to buy a few bags at a time.
I imagine that it is quite an inconvenience for customers who live close to the big box stores and now have to drive to my place.

Is that the sound of entitlement????
No such thing as greed.
They don't have anyone by the shorthairs!
Everyone has free will to :
A. Turn up the gas
B. Turn up the oil.
C. Plug in the electric heater.
D. Throw another log on the fire.
E. Install solar.
F. Turn on the heat pump.
G. Put on some thermals.
H. Go cold.

See there are lots of options.

I like that, but you forgot "dump in another pellet bag". I would choose G and H, and my better half would go for A.

The fuel marketing which is run by financial types are once again testing to see how much they can get out of the average person. It will flop again once the prices increase a little bit more just like it did a few years ago. They are trying to go too high too fast.
If you run the numbers for something like Maine's Choice at HD and Lowes with 7700 BTUs then you will find that a better quality pellet with more BTUs is less money and less ash cleaning. Many use pellets because BTUs vs cost is better than propane and oil. Well, the same goes with pellet quality and price.

Price is going down here. $6.95 a bag of Nature's Best at Wally World, so that's $278 a ton. Was close to $8/bag earlier this winter.

Greed is part of it, sorry to say. If I hadn't raised hell with Lowes Corporate, I would have paid $5.99 a bag for 4 tons. The store even charges their employees $5.99 a bag!!! Around here, the local hardware stores are still like the country stores we used to have. You sit around a pot belled stove and shoot the crap and eventually get the part you need. If they don't have it, they call up the other local store and see if they have it even though they are competitors. I had a plumbing problem on a Sunday evening and the store owner came in and opened up to get me the $3 part. Don't even get me started on Free Market economics! That's why we are in the state we are in right now with all our jobs in China making crap that lasts, if you are lucky, a day after you get it home.

I guess I was just bitter because the local Lowes was sticking it to me when I knew all you guys up North and out in the Midwest were getting the same pellets at Lowes and HD for $3.74 a bag. That, to me, is greed when they know that their brother stores are selling them for so much less.

You must have a real passion for buying pellets from your local Lowes. I would think that your local hardware store owner would have been happy to call up some of his competitors and have a few tons shipped in for you.

Don't forget diesel has gone up. .50/gal So delivery is going to go up.

Just bought a ton of MWP at the local TS for $185/t and there burning better than the ultras a got at HD which weren't that bad this year.

You mean TSC did not sell them to you at cost? Those greedy ...... I wonder how much profit they made off of you?

We also need to remember not to confuse "free trade" and the "free market". Even if we had a protectionist trade policy, we would still be a free market economy (for now).

Now back on topic. I think the original price increase was just due to market fluctuations. There are posts here daily where the prices go up and down.

They threw a sale. The sale is over.

My local Home Depot is out of Pellets and they dont know if they will get anymore in !!!! Lowes has them for 298 a ton and they only have 1 ton left !!!!!

My local HD is still selling Stove Chow/Presto Logs for $187/ton, $3.74 per bag...

Blazers still $187.00 a ton here. Okanagen and Eagle valley for $159.99 a ton.

There is lot of #2 involved in shipping 25 pallets out your way and clearly the market fetches more with the cost of electricity in your area.

Have any of you that live close together looked into pooling your funds, buying a truckload and having them shipped back there?

If only someone would convert their #2 guzzler to a gasifier pellet burner setup! approx 2gals to every bag or about 1 bag every 8 to 10 miles.

Nope, I tried. They don't even know what a pellet stove is. :cheese: If it doesn't have leaves, you don't burn it. After 40 years, I swore I wouldn't do that any more even though I have 3 acres of oaks out back.
