Hi

I have been reading this forum for a few weeks but finally signed up last night. I got a used Country Striker 160 insert at the start of winter. I have a few questions. I have had some problems this past week and took the stove part yesterday and cleaned it all out the best I could.

Does anyone know were the draft air comes in to the stove? I think I might have a block somewhere in there as I am not getting the same draft as I was when I got the stove.

Does anyone have a copy of the owners book that would have come with this stove? I am more then willing to pay for a hard copy or would love to have one emailed to me. I have looked online and the only book Lenex puts out as a PDF is for the Striker free standing wood stove and I do not think it is the same. I looked for where the air intake was and it did not show a thing.

Thank you so much I have learned a lot by just reading here and I know I will learn much more by posting!

If the draft has changed it might be related to either the flue or the wood. Check the chimney cap screen for plugging. If the wood is not fully seasoned it can make the stove act sluggish and the fire will need a lot more air to burn. Another thing to check is to make sure that the insulation blanket on top of the baffle is properly in place and has not bunched up in the back near the flue exit. That can block draft.

Here's the location for the manual for the Striker insert:

Mine dose not have a Baffle Broad like this it has fire bricks. I am not sure if it was ment to have brinks or a baffle as that is the book I have and it is from the Lenex Country Stove not from when Country was making them. The top were the front baffle board in this view is not the same as mine. The two round things are and the same hight not the frount one lower then the back like it the cut-a-way you posted So I am not sure if someone just added bricks or if they were ment to be there.

The wood is the same as I have had all year. Split this fall be cut and down for a few years. The person I cut with is using the same wood in his Country Elite 260 and not having a proublem. The Chimney pipe and the top of the stove over the fire bricks had cloged up and I cleaned them all out yesterday so it is a clean shot out the pipe into the chimeny. So the only other air should be the air coming in from the bottem on the draft rod right?

Thanks for all the help I am new at this and really would like to get it happy again as it is very cold in NY

Unfortunately, if I recall correctly, the older Striker manual did not have any parts diagram or a cross-section view. But maybe Dave has some better documentation?

You might also PM - elderthewelder. He has this insert.

Dave PM'ed me and sent me the book he had witch was the same one I have down loaded but he gave me a number to call. I have talked with the people at Lenex. They are going to email me the book for the insert so I will see if it gives me more info.

They also told me that the air comes out under the firebricks in the frount of the firebox on either side. So I am going to let it cool down and see if I can get to them and see if that helps.

Thank you all so much

Any time Anna. Stick around and we'll do our best to help you.

I just got an email back from the man at Lenex. The baffle boards are something in the newer stoves so mine is right for the year stove it is. They sent me the new book on the stove. It helps a bit but I would still like to find a book from when the stove was made. I will have to just keep my eyes open and keep looking around online.

Once it cools down I am going to try to get the bottem cleaned out and see if that helps with the draft. I think the way the fire bricks are I am getting ask in the holes. And this hole proublem started that week that is was so cold and I was running the stove full time and did not get all the ash out.

I would like to thank you all so much!

After reading what all of you said and talking with the man from Lenex I got better draft last night but not great. This morning I too a blower and blow back the air intake. Right now I have better draft and a hotter fire then I have ever had with this stove. I have the draft almost all the way down and I have the stove crowsing at 500 were before I had a hard time getting it that high with it open all the way and with it closed down I never got above 350. Most of the time I could only get the stove to run at 350-400.

Thank you so much I have a feeling my house will be much warmer and I will use less world

Good to hear. We should all be using less world.

No problem, just kiddin ya. I like it both ways.
