Hip surgery went pretty good. Had to stay an extra day in the hospital as even the doctor didn't make it in. We didn't get that much snow (a foot; more or less in some places) but it came almost horizontally. Also it was the heavy wet variety which makes it more difficult to clear roads and up until noon Wednesday the roads drifted back shut shortly after the snow plows went through.

But this morning after a few surgeries my doctor showed up in the room and soon we were headed home. That was exciting in itself because my wife was sitting right behind the steering wheel and I was hugging the passenger door! All roads were not plowed yet and lots of those that were plowed were drifting in again. But we made it home (a 40 mile drive) and after taking some anti-anxiety pills I got settled down. lol

The trip home did stir things up a bit but I guess that is to be expected. But the first thing that hit me was when I opened the front door and felt that wonderful wood heat!!!!!!!!

At the hospital I could hardly believe how cold the floors were. Because I suffer from cold feet and legs to begin with you can imagine what I went though. It was such a welcome feeling to come home and just knowing that I'd soon be warm again was worth the wait. I simply don't know if I could survive heating with any thing but wood heat any more. This just cements my feelings on how to keep warm in the winter; wood heat is the way to go.

btw, my wife had no problems keeping the house nice and warm even though she spent hours away from the house. She did have a more interesting time burning down the coals but did okay. We usually turn the draft open full just before the burn is down to the coaling stage but with her being gone so long that was not possible. I told her if it were a problem that I would forgive her if she did have to shovel a few coals out but that did not have to be done. The Fireview came through with flying colors....and hopefully I did too.

Welocme back Backwoods; to the forum and to the wood heat. The only other thing that takes a chill out like that is a HOT shower. I'd rather sit by a stove though. Enjoy!

Welcome back Dennis!

Welcome back....glad everything went well, you better take care of Mrs. Savage on Valentines Day!!! All that snow and all.

Sounds like the trip home was riskier than the surgery. Hopefully you're be good for another 50 years of wood burning. Better give your wife an upgrade from "ornery" to "irreplaceable" in your signature though.......

Dennis, take those little happy pills that they gave you. Don't wait until the pain is real bad then they won't work. You probably won't take those pills because you think you can do without, but trust me I think you will need them for a few days................Even a FIREGOD needs a little pain relief sometimes!!!!!!

I jusst takkken 3 offf those happly litlte things and ammm felleelling quuutiite well...

Amen!!!! Power to the pills!!!! I have had my neck fused ten years ago so I know what it is to live with pain. I was in a car accident and had to have the surgery. I was on the Fentynl patches, percs etc. No one should have to live with pain if the power of pills is there.....

Welcome back Dennis - I'll PM you my address for some of those pills.........Cheers!

Welcome back Dennis!
Great that all went well..

Those pills, yea. Mine had a label that said don't drink alcohol with them as it will enhance the euphoria.
I think they put it there so I'd try it.
I only had to chase them with a beer once, (1st night) but it worked like it said it would.

Saw doc today, says keep up doing nothing, nerves will need 4 more week to heel & swelling go down.
I'm doing a good job of doing nothing & hating it more everyday.

Really glad you walked into a warm house, all your training & good dry wood ready paid off.

Follow the Doc's instructions, you don't need/want to go back t the good hospital food & cold floors.
STAY OFF THAT ATV!

Dennis: Glad to hear you are home, all went well, and that the house was warm! As I said in a different post wood heat 'warms you to the bones'! Have a 'happy healing' with your pills! :)

Good to hear it went well. Now don't be a hero; listen to the rehab people and do what they say or....
Ed

Welcome back! Glad it went well.

great to hear from you dennis, i was thinking of you these past few days. its hard to match the heat of a woodburner and im glad your home to enjoy it. all the best for a speedy recovery. sincerely pete

Welcome back Dennis, I'm relieved to hear everything went well! I wish you a speedy recovery!

Welcome home, Dennis! And I'm sure just being home is making you feel better. Maybe not as good as those pills, but the combo could be euphoric :)

My Mom & my best bud both said a hip was a piece of cake, with rehab !! Have fun :)

Good to here everything went well. Are you going to rehab? Do what they tell you, it really helps.

This is happy news that you came through the surgery with flying colors! (and apparently are still flying a bit) ;-) I know that many of us have been waiting for the good news that it went well and you're home. Wishing you a speedy and succesful healing.

Glad your surgery went well and you are home safe and sound.
