An axe with... buckles on it?

I forget the name of it, I know someone who has one. Not that impressive....

Tiber, its called THE chopper axe. Its designed to push the wood apart as it enters the round. This U-tube link gives a closer look at the head. I have never used one. Looks heavy. I am still gonna invest in the new Fiskars X27 when its available to me.

I first seen those about 30 yrs ago,called the Chopper 1 if I'm not mistaken.Never used one before,have seen them sell for quite a bit on Ebay for some strange reason.I think they still are being made,no idea if the design is the same or not though.

I use a Fiskars, but have a friend who says he has really liked the Chopper over the years.

I remember my mother bought one of those in the early 80's. Never did work very well. Most of the time I used it, the head would bury to about an inch or so and the little side pusher things would be what stopped an otherwise perfectly good axe head from cutting wood.

Any wood that I split with it, was straight as an arrow grain and would have gone with a regular axe or maul no problem.

TO be fair, I was probably like 11 or so at the time, so there really wasn't much upper body strength to lend alot of force to the swing.

My MIL got me one in the '80s. It's fine on straight grained Ash and Oak. I don't find myself grabbing it that often. It's in the garage for the occasional re-split duty now. ; )

Looks like they still sell them.
