A friend referred me to a good wood guy. We were running low so we decided to order a cord. It came yesterday. I was apprehensive but to my dismay it was very good. Visually, a little snow on surface, the splits had a good (baseball bat) sound to it. On fresh cut splits it was 15-18 percent on moisture meter. It freakin burns good and hot and I am sooooo happy. It is a mix of ash, cherry and maple. He ran out of oak due to the overwhelming demand for wood this year. Just wanted to share...........

Congratulations. That sounds like a good find. Especially at this time of the year.

Tell me about it.......I was sooooo worried. I read here how some people got a good part of the cord filled with snow. I did not know what to expect. We were lucky.

Sounds like you got a good wood dealer!!
Curious of the price of a cord of good wood in your area?
$250 roughly here, but not sure how well it is seasoned.

150 delivered, not stacked. But good stuff............

That's a great deal on excellent wood alright.

Hey, ash, cherry and maple sound like winners to me. Glad you found some good stuff.

Now there's a phone number worth keeping

What am I missing? Why were you dismayed?

If you're apprehensive and dismayed maybe they cancel each other out? :p

Good stuff.. $150 a cord for seasoned this time of year is a good deal. Many pay that for green wood.

By multiplying two negatives, you get a positive. :cheese:

1st time the guy delivered good oak a full cord of it avg 15-18 inch and this 2nd time i gave him 3 weeks ahead of time to order another full cord and he delivered almost a face cord of wood on Sunday man i was not happy with all that wood avg 10-13 inch pos maple with snow packed on and bunch of ants holes on it he was supposed to deliver a cord i end up telling him come and pick up the 50 bucks and don't need 2 more face cords from him he's fired....

Color me confused as well . . . she was saddened that the wood was good even though she was worried that it would not be?

ah refreshing to hear a positive wood buying expirence.

stay warm

May I recommend going ahead and dumping anothr $150-300 with that guy and saving up for next year and having plenty to burn throughout the remainder of the season? At that price, you are in damn fine shape.

I don't have wood on my property, but I know with hauling it from friends/neighbors/gassing up a truck/chainsaw use, etc....I probably spend ~$30-50 a cord. I'd pay the extra ~$100 or so for good quality stuff dropped at my doorstep already split.

I think GAMMA RAY mis-spoke....uh, mis-typed, eh?
However, 150 for a cord of dry hardwood is a great deal.
If possible, get some more of that good stuff. How much do you think you'll burn? Since you just started burning recently, maybe triple it for next year.
So easy to spend other folks money. :cheese:

If u can swing it order another one now......

Ok, ok, I should have said "I was surprised the wood was good." I mis-used the word dismay-thought it meant surprised, amazed, etc. Yes, stupid mistake, but I am never ashamed to admit when I make one. You burners are a tough crowd but sure do know your english!!! I never did well in english. Science was my best subject....and burning is all about science.

Don't feel bad. When I started out in this forum I thought it was a "chord". Never make that mistake !!

Tuff Crowd? Nahhh. I once accidentally posted on the Pellet Mill Forum how happy I was with my 455 Husky saw. I couldn't figure out why I got all the ribbing for needing such a big saw to cut such tiny pieces of wood. Finally I realized they were talking about Pellets! Now that's a tuff crowd!.

dismay = nothing to b!tch about ? :)

I've been apprehensive to order any wood too - this gives me a little nudge in that direction. :) I'd love to!
