Hi, Ive just got the option of a free gassifying boiler (orlan super 25) thats been running on my dads large (gravity fed) house but was way under specced, hes opted fror a 50kw up burning wood waste boiler instead.

I want to put it in my unused greenhouse running 2 accumulators, max 800ltr each due to hieght restrictions.. one of the accumulators will have a dhw and solar coil.. as far as the dhw coil im only going to use it for running a seperate tap to fill my bath! The house is run on a closed system with a gas combi boiler. I need to run pipe underground for about 10' to get from greenhouse to house, whats the best way of combining these systems?

If i connect directly into the central heating system I can see pressurised thermal expansion being an issue.. would it be easier to run the heating off a dhw coil in the top of the second cylinder? then having the accumulators and boiler on their own open system? I want to keep costs down, but it obviously has to work! how many kw's can you get from a coil? If i run the whole thing pressurised is there a easy way to make an expansion vessel out of say a hot water cylinder?

as for connecting to the house system I was thinking of just using a small ch pump and plumbing in a bi-pass round the gas boiler with a non return valve..

Solar in Yorkshire? Trying to get my head around that.

The vast majority of posters on here are Americans so 800ltrs =200 US Gallons.

Do you intend to use the Orlan as your primary heating system or just as an optional extra?

haha yes solar is possible, its not likley to cook anything tho especially if it rains all summeras usual.

thanks for clearing volume's up, uk gallons are differnt as well, so didnt opt for them. Orlan would be used as primary heat for house, tho i do have wood burning stoves too.. with the gas boiler as backup, especially useful if ur away for a few days in winter to stop everything freezing etc.. hot water would be taken care of by gas boiler, except a line running from accumulator coil to bathroom so I could fill my bath using wood heat.

cheers

You might want to consider putting in a heat exchanger to provide heat for your house and use the accumulator to provide heat for all your hot water rather than just the bath.

The size of the heat exchanger can be whatever you want, the one I am putting in is 150kw, lot more than your requirements.

If the wood system does not provide enough pre heat they you have your gas system to top it up.

so you would still use the DHW coil in the accumulator for the DHW? I take it you plumb mains cold water into one side of it? would I still be ablse to use the gas boiler as back up hot water? if there was a way to plumb into dhw system and have the best of both it would be a great idea... anyone got any diagrams?

As for heat exchanger, ive thought of this one... again I could do with a diagram... I take it id pump out of top of accumulator through exchanger with a small pump, then use another small pump to cerculate water from house system through it, ahaving them both on a timer or thermostat set from within the house... whats the cost on these heat exchangers? im only familiar with swimming pool ones that presumably run on a much higher DT? or can you use these and just oversize?

cheers
