My wife brought up a good point the other night. if pellet burning is so green ect, the the bags they come in should be as well. think about all the plastic bags that go to the landfill each year from all the pellets we burn. they should be made out of recycable bags or something. makes sense, doesnt it?

Mine go in the recycle container....they recycle those bags here......

They already have bulk delivery,ITS DUMPED INTO A BIN ,but then again it has to be delivered by diesel power truck, maybe it back to horse drawn carriages / wagons
or maybe we just can't unring that petroleum bell.just a thought.

Just remember somewhere there is a guy working in a plastic bag factory just trying to feed his family. Take one bag and fill it full of other empties. Can usually get it pretty compact.

Hello

I use my empty pellet bags for all the recyclables I take to the dump.

My company buys those bags (Or bags like them) and remelts the plastic to make non woven fiber products. (Carpet, sanitary napkins, band-aid fuzz, facemasks, substrates, ect) By next year they hope to use 100% recycled materials. Keep those bags coming!

Can always send them to New Orleans for the next big storm. Sand bags.

Eric

I can honestly say I don't really care. As long as they heat my house they can be delivered in anything they wish.

If I remember correctly, just about every pellet bag I've seen has a recycle symbol on them. Put them out with the recyclables.

Pellet stoves are anything but Green.

they are great bags to re use but i admit i generate more bags than i'll ever be able to possibly ever use, the rest go in recycle.

i must be honest tho.....
i never got into the pellet burning thing to save the planet. I got into it because oil was costing thousands of dollars and just going up. additionally i was really ticked about *where* my oil money goes. at least my pellet money goes to some decent ppl. at this point id rather throw a few plastic bags in the landfill than personally fund overseas oil wars.

in cold winters here in the NE you can avg a tank a month. or more! and thats to keep the house 68 or 70. pellets cost me about 1400 a season. 1400 depending on oil prices can be less than 2 tanks of oil.

imho, it's green because you aren't burning a fossil fuel to heat your house. Sure there are things that could make it "greener" but the same could be said by nearly everything.

The bags are recyclabe in most places and the wood source is a secondary product from other industries. So we are burning scraps from the saw mills that would otherwise sit and rot.
Also the trees are replanted when cut for those industries. We havent yet been able to regrow fossil fuel ;)
Remember it will always take resource to procces/ deliver fuels no matter what they are. My feeling is if the source is renewable then thats a start.

Not exactly correct, we are in fact doing it all of the time and so is nature. You just can't see it and it takes a long time in some cases.

I know there are "manmade" fuels I was more refering to the crude theat the world has fallen in love with. Nature is a bit slow compared to the world consuption.
I would also say that most if not all of the synthetic or manmade fuels are not cost effective to produce for a long term solution.

I wasn't talking man made, more like made of man. You just have to take a long term view of things.

Yup, the Goreacle just keeps on raping the environment and fleecing the public.

Plastic is made from fossil fuel. Recycling is not nearly 100% efficient, plus the transport, and energy required to recycle. It may make as much sense to burn them efficiently for energy. Bulk delivery makes so much more sense from an enviro standpoint

Hey there CWR. Can you tell me (via PM if you prefer) the name and location of your company? As you can see I'm almost a neighbor and my wife works in Hampton. I 'use' as many of the bags as I can, and my town recycle center only take plastics that are #1 or #2, which last time I checked my 'overstock' of empty bags that's not the number on them, so if there is a chance to recycle the extras with your company that would be great!
Thanks!
