We are thinking of putting a Hot roof or no vent roof on our 1931 story and 1/2. have had a couple closed cell foam experts out to look at the roof and they think it would help. 25% of your heat is lost thru the top of your house, we have 2x4 construuction and could fill the with closed cell to get a 19 plus r value.
Do any of you have experience with a hot roof?

All I do know is that with any spray foam, please don't use it if you will have a steel roof. It keeps my husband in business, so I probably shouldn't tell you. But no matter what anybody tells you, spray foam and steel buildings/roofs do not mix.

I no nothing about hot roofs though.

Hot roofs are controversial, if you are pulling a permit check with your local building dept. That said, I'm doing one this spring with foam board on the outside of the roof and metal roofing for better snow control. This also serves to insulate the 2x4s. I wonder about R 19+ in your area. I'm shooting for R 50 with at least R40 sidewalls. Google the web, there is plenty of information out there. Good luck. Be safe.
