Alright you wood guys, question for you. It's been a while since I've been over here, heck since Craig made us pellets guy our own room I've pretty much hung out there. So I've got the pellet stove in the basement, and a NG furnance just in case, I'm thinking I need a wood stove too just because guy can't have too many backups, correct? Anyway, the house has a three season porch, insulated and ducted to the FA but closed off, glass doors to the kitchen and outside door to the deck and backyard. Back when I made the pellet decision, part of the reason was the cost of vent from the basement up 30' or so. Now I'm thinking a small wood stove on the porch may be nice, not for full time use but maybe during the weekends so we can sit out there and have morning coffee and such. Note this is a stub out porch so little vent needed, porch is around 12x14' or so, would obviously burn with the door to the kitchen open. So any thoughts at all? I know some electric baseboard would fit the ticket too, but I like to burn! Maybe one of those wood stove hot tub combos? Thanks. CZ.

Morso 2B, Jotul 602CB, Pacific Energy Vista, Napoleon 1100 are some to look at for starters.

Morson 2B (Squirrel Stove), possibly the cutest stove ever made.

Marine stoves by Navigator Stove Works, very high on the cool scale (spendy, but if that's not a factor, they might be worth a look)--tiny little cook stoves, some with ovens in them.

I have a napoleon 1100 in a 1000 square foot man room attached to my other garage and it is HOT. Love the stove but it may actually be too big for a porch. You could always open the door to the house and heat it also. I live in northern minnesota where the temps can drop to -40 or more and it will bring the temp up to 75-80 in the space I have it in. Hope this helps,

Jon

Thanks guys! Someplace to start, that's what I was looking for.

Really like the 602CB we have in the kitchen. I can make that room real toasty. Actually I can almost heat 1/2 the house with it.!
And you can cook on it to boot!

I understand that most stoves come with a recommendation for minimum flue length. Will a run from your stove straight up through the roof of the porch be enough flue to get a good draft?

Seeing that last post my set up is exactly like you are thinking. The kitchen is a bump out on the back of the house. The total height of my chimney is about 15 feet from the stove to the top. It is about 15 feet from the side of the main house. The top is not even up to the eves on the main house. No draft problems at all. Only once in a while starting from ice cold do I have to warm up the pipe.

Here's a Morso "Squirrel" stove on eBay for $125buy-it-now.....in Dakota, Minnesota.

Description:
"Morso Squirrel Stove
Older model
Some Surface rust in places
Needs a good cleaning and inspection
Good stove for shop or small cabin
Local Pickup only
Paypal only"

Looks like it could use some stove paint, but for $125????

Best wishes,
Ed

Thanks Ed! I'll look into that one, that's what I was planning on doing, keeping an eye on CL. 125 miles at 12 mile a gallon, wonder if the stove will fit on a motorcycle? And I now know what the heck a squirrel stove is and why it's named that way, learn something new every day.

Depends on what size the bike is. ;-)
