Actually, the SLOWER the air moves through a duct, the more it cools.....Because is spends more time in there.
You should be able to download the spec sheet and see how many cfm's each one moves.

one thig i forgot to add was the room where the stove is going to be is 20x25 and 12 foot ceilings will the quadra fire 4300 millennium be sufficient enough? do i have to account for ceiling height? thanks

It should work. I can't tell how big the firebox is from the website, though.
With 4" corner clearances, the Super 27 or Spectrum will allow you to put that thing further into the corner, freeing up a bit of floor space.

lol i have a wife and the stove has to be PRETTY!

Mine has to be going on about 9 years if I remember correctly. I don't know when the model was born. For some reason, I want to think that my stove was built with a different parent company, but I don't remember the history there either. Maybe one of the Quad dealers could speak to that.

jags

does the isle royal have a blower on it ? are you able to keep the doors open for ambiance (i have a wife who love the fireplace) the reason i ask is because i found a great deal online and its coming to crunchtime to buy it (isle royal) im torn there are so many wood stoves i just wan to make the right decision. a person a few posts back said if you cant replace the baffles in a stove the stove is junk, can you replace them in the isle royal? also how close can you tuck the stove in the corner thanks

The Isle Royale has a blower option - I would recommend it. It also has a spark screen option for open door operation. I had purchased one new with the stove and took it back within days (never used). With the big glass area, it was not needed in my opinion. The Isle royale is designed so that it can be completely rebuilt if needed. They don't seem to have the baffle problems of many stoves on the market. Dunno, maybe I'm lucky. If all things are done right, it is a 6" C to C on the corners of the stove. Check out the Quad website and they have a funky display showing all the C to C's.

Chrism...interesting and informative thread. I especially like Jags advice. The looks of that Isle Royale stove is GREAT. My house seems similar to yours, a few hundred square feet more (when your addition is put on) and I heat it with a Quad 3100 and is does a good job. On real cold days it has trouble keeping up and I do have to stoke it more often. I like how Jags and Jake said go one bigger...I should have done that. According to Jags that is what you would be doing. The quadrafire stoves are an excellent product for a good price. Good luck and thanks for the info.

Jags i came across isle royal online i called quadrafire and they told me it was a 2003 stove the people are asking $1500 for the stove is that a good deal? is that old for a stove????? when i go look at this stove what should i look at to see if it was beat up? i really don't know!!! you guys are alot more knowledgeable than i am when it comes to stoves ?? thanks Jags

Okay - now your down to the nitty gritty. That stove is roughly the vintage of mine, and with abuse being the exception, it probably couldn't have been run any harder than mine has been...so...This stove is advertised as a $2600 stove, new. Things to look out for are signs of over firing.

Any chalking or flaking of the exterior paint

The condition of the firebrick. The brick IS considered a consumable but if you notice that it is severely degraded on an 8 yr old stove it may signal some abuse.

There is an angle iron bracket inside and to the back that holds the back firebrick in place. Check the condition of that. It can be a sort of litmus test. If it is in fine shape - this stove has probably not seen a bunch of fires. Even with what I would consider normal use, mine is starting to degrade and I will probably have to make a replacement in a year or two (easy to do).

If you have the ability - take along a very strong light. Place it in the stove and look at the seams of the different panels, from the outside. You are looking for light that escapes past the joints - signaling that some maintenance will need to be done. If no light, your probably good to go.

Check the re-burn tubes for signs of fatigue.

Check the gaskets on the top load door and the two front doors for condition.

If top load is an interest, make sure that the linkage works smoothly. (I don't use top load)

Take pics - the collective minds of this site will be able to give a pretty good overview of the stove.

On Price - your call. This stove is rated as a pretty clean burning EPA stove and being cast will out live you or me, with normal maintenance. Look at the overall condition of the stove. If it looks new, that would weigh heavily on the price point to me.

Hope this helps.

I don't know either. Their own website states the 4300 at 56000 btu/hr and the Isle royal at 66700 per hour. Maybe he wants to see a "new" sale instead of a resale.

The dimensional specs of the 4300 step top do eek out a bit larger dimensions though.

Also keep in mind that you are looking at a plate steel stove (plate is better used for snow plows) compared to a cast iron stove (the stuff that gawd intended stoves to be made from)

{jags ducking and running}

this is the stove shes gonna send better pics later i guess you cant really see from this pic but i thought id post it

Warming shelves are also an option that ain't overly cheap. Nothing too glaringly wrong so far. Better (bigger) pics of the inside too please. Make sure the little porcelain handle that screws into the door latch is with it. My box only came with one that you were supposed to transfer from the top loader handle to the front door handle. Complete BS and my dealer gave me the second one. I am pretty sure they are available from Quad.

i was just told by her that i can have all the chimney pipe from inside the house and out !!! and the stove for $1500 went from a somewhat good deal to a real good deal i think the pot the stokers. whatever she has is mine!!

They were not kind to that stove for sure. BUT - the good news is that with a paint job and fixing that angle iron in the back of the stove (thats the one I was telling you to look at), I think this stove still has a lot of life left in it. I couldn't really see the tubes in the top of the box. If there are no cracks in the cast - I think you still may be dealing with a pretty good deal.

I think a bunch of what you are seeing - is a dirty stove. I bet she cleans up pretty well.

i got her down to $1400 including all the chimney. new fire brick set is $160 and a new angle iron in the back is $38.00 I was thinkin it might be still worth it to but wanted more opinions?????
