The days are getting warmer but the other day it was still cold enough at night to need a small fire. I got a nice fire going and didn't really worry about it being too big because we usually open a few windows to let some of the nice cool air in to help regulate the temps. I could light the gas stove to take the chill off but I am determined to not light it at all this year. The only problem is the dogs had pissed off a skunk up wind of the house and I can't open any windows. I was sitting in the living room roasting at 87 degrees wondering if I was going to have to break down and turn on the A/C just to cool it down enough to sleep. I grabbed the flashlight and rifle and headed out to find the stinky little guy. I got him and I felt a little better but it did not help cool the house down.
 
I predict our AC will not be turned on before July.

Sorry to hear about the pole cat. None out here yet but did see some possums. Spring is not too far away.
 
no need to kill a skunk. they are very easy to trap and relocate. if interested, let me know. i'll monitor this.
 
I kill them suckers ! We have tons of them . I live conveniently out of town. Guess where they locate them suckers . That's right , in my neck of the woods . Last year a neighbor dispatched 256 of the varmints. So ya , they are going to see their maker in my neck of the woods .
 
Having A/C here would make as much sense as having a woodstove in Florida hahahaha!
 
Skunks are smelly critters. My dad was a veterinarian. When I was about 8 or 9, he decided to take a fee for descenting some baby skunks. I went along for the ride down by the river where the operation was done. That was the last time he took on a project like that. We had to bury his clothes. Don't think he made enough money to cover the cost of the clothing.
 
Nate would you like to join me at my Army reunion in September at Lake Texoma? Should be warm enough then.
 
Ok. I lived in Witchita Falls for a while, that isn't all that far away. Houston was much worse as far as heat/humidity though.

My stove has only been cold six nights since November & I've burned 1.5 cords season to date. Electric heating bills in my neighborhood are running $350-$600 a month this winter. My stove makes cents to me :coolsmile:

I have family in Wichita Falls. They have gone from 7 degrees to 84 in one weeks time this year.
 
I need some A/C right now. Wife said it was chilly earlier 67 in house. Built small fire now I'm sweating my A** off. Lol She's comfy though. Guess that's what's most important.
 
Fall is easier. You are so glad to go from hot to cool. This time of year you want it to be warm and it keeps shifting gears like crazy.

But I will take what we had today (70 F) over the five foot icicles that were hanging off of this barn and the three feet of snow still on the ground on this date last year anytime. Even though the stove will be cranking again in two more days.
 
Never been to Florida but didn't figure it gets all that cold. Internet is showing the coldest temp in the state to be ~45* and highest is just under 70*. I don't bother with my stove if it's not at least in the 30s outside as it would be WAY too hot in the house even with a small fire.

Thankfully it is warming up this week but we'll still see some 30's before spring ends. Glad to start shoulder season early. You should come on down this spring, I'll have the redfish & seatrout dialed in soon.

Wichita Falls can be terribly hot! Used to stay with my Grandparents in nearby Henrietta. One summer is broke 100 for like 40 days in a row. Maybe a little less humidity than Houston (where I lived for 30 years) but it's still darn hot.
 
I, for one, am not looking forward to it getting warm. We enjoy cool/cold weather. I love the mild spring days we get here. Lows around 50 or so. Highs in the mid 70s. It should stay that way all year.

February is usually our coldest month and the first week or so lived up to that but I think we've had our last cold spell, and last hot stove, for the year. I'm hoping it won't get too hot too quickly. Don't want to see 90s until late May. We live in the country now and love having all the windows open all day and night. Hope to get by with open windows and ceiling fans til at least mid May before having to turn on the A/C (two heat pumps.)
 
I could just see that. Everyone looking at me... "WTF is wrong with that guy" cause it's 50* and I'm outside in shorts and a T Shirt while everyone else has 4 winter coats on hehehehehehehe.
