Hello -
I am very excited to have just gotten a new Jotul F3 installed in my living room. Tonight my partner and I followed the instructions for the first break in burn, attempting just a small fire with some newspaper and kindling. I was hoping that we would be successful at being incredibly precise keeping things right at 200 degrees, but the fire went up to about 300 degrees according to the magnetic thermometer on top of the stove. And since 300 degrees is where we are supposed to be for the second burn not the first one, I am a bit stressed out that I may have already messed this thing up within the first 24 hours. Can anyone please share some thoughts and wisdom based on previous experience, hopefully letting me know that there is some leeway with these break in burns and that everything is a-okay with my new stove?
Many thanks,
Jonathan

That hunk of iron is just fine. Finish off the other break-in burns and then rock and roll.

You should be fine. It is a good little stove when you get it going. Finish your break in fires and than hope for some cold weather

I have been burning the F3CB for 5 winters now. The first time I went to break it in, I did the 200 degree thing, then went out to go to the store and when I came back, it was at 500 and all the smoke detectors were going. I then let the fire go out, and figured that was as good as my attempt for a break-in was going to be.
It has worked perfectly ever since. Kind of the same when people said that the best way to break in a 340 Dart was "put her to the floor" the first time out. Worked for me.

Should have added, that I don't recommend doing it that way, just that if the temp went above it, don't worry about it too much, as long as it didn't go way above for a long period of time.

I just had my F3 installed this week. I read through the manual and noticed about the 'break-in' fires and was starting to worry that I had to do it EXACTLY that way. Glad to see there is some leeway in the actual real world :)

To be continued...
