Yes, it's early for here too. I could probably hold off a little, it's growing slowly. But we are in a dry spell and that might not be true in a couple weeks when the lawn will certainly have to be mowed. So tomorrow it is. Picked our first daffodils today too.

Strange weather for sure. Took the steaks off the grill about an hour ago, now the only thing outside NOT white is the Weber. Snowing like an SOB, but 77 inside. ?

Well, north central New Jersey set a new record high temperature of 67 degrees today. I haven't had a fire in the wood insert for a few days and it is beginning to look like I may not have another until next winter. I note my electric bill that I paid today was almost $400, and that's with a geothermal heat pump and running the wood insert on well seasoned hard wood on the colder evenings... and going to be at midnight with a couple of fresh slabs (about 15-20 pounds of wood) on the coals. Even though the insert was not loaded for an overnight run some checking indicated that the heat pump was still held off until around 4 AM, by the wood fire. Those nights the outside temp got into single digits.... cold for this part of the country.

I'm ready for spring.
I'm ready for spring also But keep the wood nearby winter is not over very cold nights and possible snow monday. Did you see the Oak that crushed the house in Ridgewood NJ ?

Having spent the first 32 years of my life living in N.J., trust me, your winter isn't over yet...................................

Two days in the seventies, today fifty with fifty mile an hour winds. Temp dropping like a rock tonight and snow for next week.

I return you now to your regularly scheduled Winter.

Not far away...got those howling winds last night up until @ 2200. Was over on the esatern shore and all the farm dirt was blowing toward the ocean beaches. Reminded me of tose dust bowl movies. 32 this morning...not bad but certainly not spring yet. Summers here are natoriously brutal (to me anyway being from upastate N.Y.). I agree with BB, sure looks like at least climate shift/change if not warming. Too many places getting strange weather. Maybe its preps leading to 2012. Better get extra wood in this burn season. :)

No way. Upper 40's with off & on cold windy rain today.30 tommorow with good chance of snow.Least all the previous snow is gone now with the 50-68 degree temps we had last week.Just a temporary reprieve from winter's icy grip, its not over yet unfortunately.

How big is your house Jerry? Does your Geo have resistance auxillary heat installed? If so; what controls it?

Florida Heat Pump? Water Furnace? What do you have?

$400. sounds pretty darned hefty to me. I'm in SJ but it's not That much different. <g>

I know you are going to hate me for this. But as I was out pruning plants today and decided that I need to mow the lawn tomorrow. The grass is about 6" tall.

Yes, I thoroughly despise you.

We were literally on our way out the door for a road trip when we checked the weather and found out we would be heading into another major winter storm. Another good day lost to snow. Hope the snowmobilers and skiers have their fun with thie stuff, we just want to mow the lawn (never thought you'd hear me say that).

I used to wait for spring and summer every year until i discovered wood stoves, skiing, ice skating ect. Now i suffer through the heat of summer waiting for cooler weather. Iv finally disovered the weather here is a pretty good balance, hard to find 70 deg year round, always wanted to move to florida, and now that im able to do it, its just too hot most of the year. Maybe ill just visit in winter.

Somebody need to start eating "ground hogs"

Not over here any time soon. Iditarod hasn't even started yet.
March is our snow month.
But daylight hours being longer is nice. Almost 10 hours now & gaining 4.45 min /day ** http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=18

No anger here, the temps you get in the 40s with the misty rain feels cold when I'm there.
Hurry & mow the yard, it's supposed to rain/snow there tomorrow :) ** http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...EW&textField1=47.3811&textField2=-122.234&e=0

The above freezing temps thru the winter are nice & the summers don't get too hot. PNW is beautiful country.

Reminds me of when I lived in W. Texas. During heavy sand storms we said that we owed the land one day and our neighbor owned it the next day.

Brother Bart, where did you live out in West Texas? I grew up between Lubbock and Amarillo - Plainview to be exact. Which explains why I love the woods on our property where we live now - between Houston and Austin. I think I have more trees on my 12 acres than all of Hale county.

I'm certain we are done burning for the year. I cleaned out the stove, cleaned the windows on the stove and cleaned around the hearth today. Then I moved all the cord wood off the front porch and put it back in the stacks. Folded up the canvas log carrier and stashed it away.

I'd still like to bring in some more wood from my stash a few miles away. It's going to be too hot soon to be splitting much by hand but I can bring in at least another cord and even if I only work an hour a day I will eventually get it split.

In some ways I'll miss the burning. In other ways.... not so much.

Grew up outside of Vernon. Moved to Lubbock after high school. Spent a lot of time in Plainview because I leased Jimmy Dean Sausage their trucks. Well, and one night in jail there. :red:

As to winter being over. I think the large chunks of ice falling for the last two hours say different.'

BeGreen, as you forecast. It was in the low teens yesterday night/morning, and we're expecting a 5 degree temperature tonight. Fortunately I didn't close down my insert, it has a nice bed of coals in and a couple of burning splits. The heat pump is off and has been for a few hours. I'll put in a couple of big hunks of Oak at midnight, that will keep it going until almost sun-up. We expect warmer weather tomorrow and forward.
