Well today is the day to make a decision. After what seems like paralysis by analysis, I think that I'm going to go with the Jotul Oslo over the Lopi Endevor.

Is there any little quark or bugs with the Oslo that I may have missed? I'm still a big rookie at this kind of thing and just want to make sure.

Jotul makes some beautiful stoves and I hear good things about them.. I think you'll be happy..

Good Luck!

Both are good stoves, but there is a world of difference between them, both in operation, looks and the way they heat. We don't know enough about your needs other than the wife wants ivory to comment. But as an example, if you like a steel stove, but want it in ivory, you could get a PE Spectrum this way.

I'm as happy as can be with my Oslo. It works better than I could expect. It is total quality. For the money I've saved and the pure good heat keeping my house comfortable I'll never cry about getting firewood ready. Now I've been quite hesitant about making this known but I bought a new cat Encore this spring. I have since sold it (before it got really cold) and lost my shirt. BUT, I am not Sorry. Because I really like the Jotul. After breakin before Thanksgiving I started it up and it never went out except for two times I was out of town. And I let it go out last week when we had a warm spell. It seems to burn less wood than the VC Resolute Acclaim that the Encore was supposed to replace.
Please don't ask why I got rid of a brand new Encore. I did not want it after I bought it! My fault. My error, my loss. But the point is that I could not be more pleased with the Oslo 500 and I think you are making a wise choice and will be pleased as well.

DID IT! Oslo it is. We went with the standard black. The wifey now has bigger plans for me to tile in the area around it and dress up the surrounding walls. Sounds like more work for me. I couldn't be happier, just hope the all of the pieces come into place now with the installation.

Good choice! The only thing better would have been the blue/black finish.

You won't be sorry ours kept us cozie all winter; I need to see if my furnace still works :zip:

I'm a weekend burner. Our Oslo has been running great for 10 + years. We have the green enamel finish, which I don't think they have any more. If you like the victorious enamel finish and colors it is well worth the extra $. Ours stove looks like the day it was new. Search this site, you will find a lot of Oslo discussions. One very small issue is the ash that gets trapped between the front door and the stove. The ash spills out when you open the door. Because we use the side door to load, I run the whole year and don't open the front. I can't compare it to others, because it's my first and only stove, but we love it, and I think most people who have one will agree.

Muhahahahahaha . . . another one who has joined the dark side with the matte black and has resisted the urge to go with the blue black finish. ;)

Only issues that keep popping up is the annoying habit of having ash spill out the front door . . . some folks report using some gasket material to help reduce this problem . . . and the air control lever which may stick (but is easily fixed with a cleaning and liberal application of graphite powder.)

Oh yeah, forgot to add . . . they can only take away my Oslo when they pry it from my very cold, dead hands . . . I love this stove . . . it looks good . . . but heats even better.

Congrats on becoming the newest member of the Oslo Organization for World Dominance. ;)

Don't ya have the Org. named wrong? I thought it was :

World Organization for Oslo Dominance

I could be mistaken tho... :)

I can't wait for the installation, and will post progress pics once it comes in.

I love the "World Organization for Oslo Dominance". That's great.

The only time I hear complaints about the Oslo, is when new burners buy one and try to burn unseasoned wood in it. It simply will not burn unseasoned wood. I have enjoyed my Oslo for three years now, beautiful and efficient. Heats 2000+ s.f. no probs.

That statement is true, however, it is also true for most if not all new EPA approved stoves.

Welcome to the club, gbailey! Good choice!

I'm a dedicated W.O.O.D. member myself, but of the B.B.E.E. chapter. (Blue-Black Enamel Envy). FFJ is just in denial about his secret longing for that beautiful color.

i'm completely satisfied with my new oslo. had it for about 4 weeks now, replacing an old model VC resolute. since its the end of the season i've had to dip into some of my not-so-seasoned wood that i was hoping to save for next year, so as others have mentioned it takes a little finessing. can't wait until next year when i have a whole supply of seasoned wood!
