So far this month, we had a blizzard while I was cooped up in a hospital. Then for a couple days we had a taste of Spring. I've been wishing I could be out cutting firewood but today....I plowed snow once again. We got 9-10" yesterday and last night. It was a bit heavier snow than we've had most of the winter but the atv did its job very well. But I'd rather be cutting firewood.

btw, I did have to take a break on the snow plowing. I got 3 of 4 driveways plowed and had to come in to lay down for a while. Put heat on the new hip and that helped. Later I went out to finish....and found that the other driveway had been plowed already by their next door neighbor. So all I plowed was a walking path from house to horse barn and also around the mailbox. Then I also had to clean out our corner as the snow plow had went through...and true to the task, they did plow our dead end road...but partially plugged it when they plowed the other road.

Have I mentioned that I'd rather be cutting firewood?

Almost forgot to post this. Last Thursday I was in back burning a brush pile when suddenly here come 3 sand hill cranes! They are a bit early this year as we usually don't see them until early March. Then this morning we had 3 strange birds at the bird feeder. Not sure just what they were but reminded me of a starling.

We got 4-5" with sleet and ice on top. Hard plowing for an atv. Plus, my limestone driveway wasn't frozen underneath. I can hardly wait to see all the rocks in the grass when it melts.

That sounds nasty. Driveways here also thawed so we plowed a little dirt with the snow.

Don't over due on that hip. It might seem like you aren't over stressing things when you are having fun but by nite fall you'll know it. I love being out on the skidsteer all day but I know that a nap needs to come sometime in there. The old bones don't do what they use to do.

Well, I did have to take a break so that is why I laid down. Now I'm done and will take it easy the rest of the day. Well, the bones got somewhat of a workout.

Sounds like you are heeling great. Try to not over do it.
Do you need any of the "happy pills" after plowing?
Neighbor plowed mine while I was gone. To be sunny for next week, below zero at night, teens day time.
I gotta haul some wood to the house today, feeling pretty good. Sunshine feels good.

we got a 1/4 to a 1/2" of ice from your storm here lastnight. They are calling for 2-4 by morning. There is a ton of wood out there now, Ice brought down limbs and trees all over town. I am tempted to grab some but I have so much wood to process right now and MORE coming. What to do what to do

Jeff

I hear you on wanting to be cutting wood Dennis! I couldn't imagine not being able to do it for very long. Wishing you a speedy recovery so you can get back at it as soon as possible.

I have been seeing a red-tailed hawk for the last week or so. I thought they went south for the winter, but not positive about that. If they do, then this guy is back already. Doesn't seem much like spring anymore though, we got 7 inches of snow, sleet, and freezing rain yesterday/last night. No firewood cutting for me either for a few days at least, until I can open the trail into the woods again.

Just put me behind a saw..............with the wind to my back Please. Goggles suck.

Dave, I'm still taking 2 different pain meds. One I will run out of tomorrow. Hopefully I can just quit taking it rather than any refills. But yes, I do have to take some after plowing snow. Last night too was interesting. I had to take extra stuff because the leg hurt so much I couldn't even sleep. Took a pill and slept the night away. Feels okay this morning but I still know it is there. Another week should make a big difference.

I also did bring 2 carts of wood from the barn to the porch. That made the ornery one very unhappy! Well, sometimes one just gets stir crazy and has to do something constructive.

I got out Sunday and cut a truck load of oak. Got my truck stuck - had to dig it out for an hour. Then we got 8+ inches of snow Sun/Mon. You are right - heavy wet snow. I am sore from 4 hours of shoveling! This morning it was 11 degrees so the snow is staying around awhile.

I would love to cut wood or split what I have - but it's all buried in snow and I can't drop off anymore wood - because I can't get to it.

I am gonna miss my March 1 finish time - dang it. I guess as long as I am done before April?

You may be going crazy but if you wreck that hip attachment point you will be really crazy. Sounds like you should slow down a little, it may be frustrating but the alternative is hobbling around, if you can. Be safe.

I hear ya jhoff310 as I am in Toledo too and the ice brought a lot down. Luckily, I do have some room for wood and have been able to pickup two truckloads of 6-8 inch limbs before work and during lunch time without having to do any cutting. I am trying to figure out if a guy in dress slacks and good shoes is actually "smart" grabbing wood from the curb in 4 inch snow and slush.... The people at work think I am looney.

Since these are my first two scrounges that feeling of something free is warming my toes for me! Cannot wait for the ice to melt so I can do some cutting.

Tim

BS, you remind me of me! Just can't sit still. Really though, don't over do it. That would probably just prolong getting back at it full time. You take care.
We got rid of all our snow and ice in one week of 50 -60 degree weather. I got the rest of my wood split and started on the new stove install. The roof is snow free and dry and I was all ready to cut a hole in the roof on Saturday to finish the chimney. However, this afternoon the weather man changed the rain forecast for Thursday to a Winter Storm Watch - 5 - 7 in. of snow for east central IL. Yuck! There goes the chimney install for Saturday. Back to winter

Been seeing the sand hill cranes around here too and the ice blast did not send them away. I thought they were early too but chalked it off to being hopeful...

I saw a first for me a couple of weeks ago. 3 white swans flew over. See lots of geese but that's the first time I have ever seen swans around here.

What the heck does Dennis care about OSHA? The "ornery one" can't stop him, doctors, re-hab specialists, mother nature.......nothing works. Can anyone say "Bionic"? I am in awe. :)

You have a point there, but then he does split horizontal :cheese: Whops, I meant vertical.

Hang in there Dennis. Remember, some pain is from the normal healing process. Other pain is your body parts telling you to slow down before damage is done. Spring will be here soon and we can all start on replenishing what we used this year. I have to say, there is nothing like sitting in front of the insert during the frigid weather we all have had and enjoying the heat. Slow down a bit Dennis. Let your body heal.. Jim

Hey, I don't understand so many folks, both here and at home, telling me I'm doing too much. I disagree! Even yesterday when I went outdoors using a cane rather than the crutches.... Then also in the house going from one room to another....without cane or crutch! My wife hollers at me but I look at it as being positive! Progress and part of the healing process.

I go to see the surgeon on Friday. We'll see what he has to say.

Dennis come and plow my drive way? (its not snow though) lol

I was on a construction crew once where guys started 'fessing up how they lost an eye. Over a third of the crew was one eye away from darkness. Goggles only suck while you're wearing them.
