Was told today by the stove tech that softwood pellets are not recommended for bottom feeding stoves...
Due to the fact that pellets from pine still have some sticky resin in it and over.time will give you the gummy auger jam....
He must have seen my mouth drop as he said "yup, seen it happen to people who burn strictly softwood pellets... they get more heat and more problems".......
Anyone here have that problem?

hogwash...plain old hogwash.

B as in beee, S as in esss.....

Cut that tech some slack, maybe he found the cause of Harman's gummy stove syndrome.

Pine resin .....................

Pardon me I laughed so hard I have to start the sump pump.

That is too funny! Harmans CAN burn anything, because they are a bottom feed.

lemme think, bet that dealer doesn't sell softwood.

hahahahahahaha

What a bright tech you got there.

Give em a break, lol someone had to tell him! .... I believe he is a certified tech.... to bad we can't get an official word from harman!

Lmao!

Well, I guess I'll keep burning the softwood in the harmon :coolsmirk:

Well if you burn your bottom feeder on the lowest setting it could tar up, dont like them bottom feeders, what prevents the fire from backing up into the hopper??

The same thing that prevents fire from going into the hopper on any pellet stove.

I'm guessing that tech sells hardwood pellets for $11.95 per bag...

Last year I burned Rocky Mountain Pellets(softwood). Half way thru the season my auger started to squeal and was very annoying. Tried many ways to get it to stop but nothing worked. At the beginning of this season it still squealed even though I went back to Somersets(Hardwood). After a week of burning the Somersets, no more squeal. Have been burning Somersets eversince.

Maybe there is a little truth to it?

I have boasted the softwoods on here and I have paid. I used to get my softies for much less than the hardwoods. Now I have to pay more or do without. NE is tough(or was) on softwoods thanks to the wood burners. "You only burn Hardwoods in NE" . I am sticking to that so others will go back to the hardwoods and my softies will again be lower priced.

Softwoods are bad for your stoves and they burn way way faster. Clog you auger and make them squeak. They fall apart and are loaded with fines. Dusty as crap. Make huge clinkers in your burnpots. And hardwoods are cheaper. Yup, You all need to burn hardwoods. :)

Now you sound like a politician! Your testing results tell us what you would really like to burn! Lmao......

Probably an Inferno dealer :)
