ok, so here are pics of the $50 stove I got today...It says under the lid it is manufactured by sherwood industries in Vancouver B.C. Model says it is an EF 2 on the front it says envirofire...

This stove is so dirty, it is not wonder it does not work. Will have to clean it up and see if the augur turns. I can't even pull the rods because it is either caked on or rusted or something...

For 50 bucks, what the hell. Nice find and may be an interesting project. Should still be able to get parts for it.

Chris, If you don't want it? I'll give you $350 for it(And I am serious)!

EF 2 is a dandy stove and will throw nice heat at you, Even though its rated for something like 35K to 40K BTU's max. They heat nicely. A bit picky with some pellets but will eat them Cubex nicely. Pretty much the same stove as the EF3. And if you want a stove that will start and stop with stat you can mod it to the digital controller. Ask fello member nailed nailer on his EF2, Pretty sure he loves his. They are solid stoves.

Same as any other "keep it clean it will keep you warm"!

Congratulations! Nice stove especially with a little TLC (3 or 4 hours) and it will be mint. Hopefully everything still works on the stove. You could replace everything on it for 6 or 7 hundred which most likely won't be the case. Worst case scenario $750 for a EF 2. Priceless. My neighbor just bumped into a similar deal: $100 for a pellet stove. I don't have that luck...

what a bargain...!!!!!

Well, I would like to keep it as long as I can get it running. I think I am going to have to take it outside and leaf blow it out or something. I can not believe this thing did not catch on fire. The guy said the augur motor quit, I have not tried to turn it on yet, but as dirty as this thing is /was and there were pellets looked to be jammed in the augur itself, so it just might need a good cleaning and it may be fine. I did do a quick vacuum of it. Thought about plugging it in to see if it worked at all, but I am a bit afraid to inside. I need to find a heavy duty dolly so I can wheel it outside I guess.

The punch out says it is a 1993 or 1995. If I can get it running safely I would like to replace the kozi with it. Would you like to buy that ;-)
If I can't get it running though I will sell it...

Chris, You will get it going. and I will help all I can! Download the service manual from here Get her clean and tidy. Do some lubing and wanna bet she fires right up? :)

On the kozi? I am looking for a pellet test stove, One that clinkers and has to be "real" pellet picky so. Depending on the travel and you asking cost. I just might be interested. All it has to do is run. I don't care much about how good it heats as my beast handles the whole house. This will just need to keep the basement warm! :)

Issue #1

ok vets....Can't get the side panels off because the T20 tork screws are stripped, what can I do?

stripped t20 is really common on Enviros what i do is take my pocket knife and wedge it under the screw head as i turn the screw usally comes right out after one turn. Put direct power to the aguer motor and see if it spins, if not it's dead. If it works check the vacum switch it has a orange hose going to it make sure that the hose is clean and the hose barb at the exhaust housing is clean. That the most common issue i come across with the ef2/3 stoves

Great find for $50 Chris! I agree w/ skinanbones on the auger issue. I'm betting it was so dirty that it clogged the vacuum line, which shuts off the auger.

IMO, get the stove outside somehow and start tearing it apart, cleaning & blowing out EVERYTHING as you go. Then, give her a nice paint job, re-assemble, and I bet she'll burn great.

And here I thought I was the only one so fortunate as to get a nice pellet stove for only $50. Welcome to the club. I think you should have left it outside until you did all the cleaning it needs, that's the small price for getting it so cheap. I went through the same process with my "new" old stove back in November after it sat outside for about 6 months. Moving it alone on a piano dolly wasn't overly difficult but was awkward. That 2nd photo raises the question of where the burn pot is hiding. Is it buried in ash? Have you turned it on yet? Two things to be aware of when you do, bad sounds or bad smells, as in burning wire insulation. A bad sound could be a problem with one of the motors, or something caught in one of the fans, or maybe something caught in the auger. While working on mine, one of the screws I removed fell into the hopper and was almost in the auger. That would have been bad if it got jammed in there. If after turning it on, you look into the empty hopper and can see auger turning, and the blowers blow good and forcefully, then it is going to work. Having it outdoors is also good for firing it up without having to worry about the smoke or exhaust, but I don't think its really necessary to work on it outside. You can do the cleaning by scraping, brushing, and vacuuming indoors, and it's easy to vacuum up any ash that falls on the floor. Then testing it can be done without actually lighting it, just to see if all the parts function. To catch any ash that the exhaust blower might expel, hang a damp rag over the exhaust pipe, binding it on top with a rubber band or bag tie so it doesn't blow away. Any ash will be caught in the moisture of the rag. Good luck with the cleaning and installation.

I didn't want to leave it out in the snow. Yes the burn pot is under all that ash. I didn't want to start it yet before I looked in the back at things. Now I have to get the stripped screws out so I can look behind the panels. I didn't want to start it inside just incase a fire happened or something.

I got a Harman Advance for $50. PO said wasn't working and he didn't know why. Fuse was blown and then stove worked but wouldn't feed but at constant rate. A few pieces of glass replaced, stove paint and a new control board for $180 and I made out pretty good. For the short cash you paid, some elbow grease and a couple of bucks in parts you can't go wrong!

ok, here are some more pics of this dirty, pet hair infested stove....The second pics of the electronic wires, there is electrical tape around the plug in part that the yellow wires lead, any one know what this part is? I don't want to remove the electrical tape without someone looking at this pic first....Hopefully you can see what I am talking about....

It's probably best to not disturb the wire with the electrical tape because it is most likely OK. But that blower! Good Gawd!! It's going to need a whole lot of vacuuming and air blasting to remove all that caked-on dust. Obviously, it wasn't well maintained, so you are going to have to find out if your blower motors need, or don't need oiling. About the stuck screws, you could also use a drill with a bit for drilling metal. Drill out the center of the screws then maybe use a heat gun to help loosen them.

What a mess, Sure sign of no maint. there! I wouldn't mess with the wiring until its all cleaned up and you try to run it outside. If it doesn't run, Well time to play electrican then.

Chris,

since the heating season is starting to wind down, I'd forget about rushing to get this unit cleaned out in a hurry, to replace the Kozi.

Remove anything you can get to easily (blowers, auger motor, auger, vacuum switch w/ hose, etc) and clean them outdoors, and vacuum as much as you can get to, but that stove needs to be taken apart OUTSIDE as far as you can, and a combo of leaf blower, compressed air, brushes, etc used on every nook & cranny you can get to, to get it really clean. And maybe even a nice new paint job.

All the motors could also be tested for operation and lubed if possible.

Then you can re-assemble at your leisure, and give it a good test burn before bringing it in and installing. And the existing Kozi exhaust pipe can be checked and cleaned too.

Just my opinion.
