6421 because you can always upgrade it to a 7900 using the OEM 7900 p&c ($190) or by using the $99 84cc BB kit (both of which are bolt on) if the 64cc doesn't cut it (pun intended). In its stock form its still an awesome saw.

You probably can't go wrong with either, since you're buying at cost and could resell and make a profit. BUT, were it me, I'd buy the lightest and more nimble saw that would get the job done effectively. So, it would depend on what you're doing with 'em.

Both are good saw's but if it was me... It would be the 6421 hands down.

I really like my 5100s but I wish I would have got a 6401 back then... Looking for a used 6401 :}

Thats true, but it will pay for itself when you start to get into larger size wood. The differences between a 50cc saw and a 64cc saw is night and day in larger hard wood.+ you all ready have a few smaller saw's.

I wish I would have payed the extra $$ a few years ago.. I'm now looking for a larger saw for the big stuff.

I bought a 5100 and love it. I got pretty handy with it. Folks started refering trees once in a while. Then I had some more trees come my way than I could easily handle.

I then bought a 6401 from Home Depot. I love it even more.

Here is how I would make the decision.

If you are cutting stuff in the 20" diameter and on up size go 6400 and be happy.

If you're are bothered by the thought of the extra wieght buy the 5100.

If I was cutting only fence row or 'yard' trees I would gpo with the 5100 as it is light and fast handling for lots of limbing. I nth woods I really like the added power of the bigger saw.

With all this snow I've been walking in and cutting trees to haul when it thaws. The 5100 is easier on gas, lighter and has easily dropped everything I've asked it to.

You're going to be happy either way ; )

+1. I haven't touched my 026 (50cc) since I got the 6401. Get the 6421! The only reason I'm keeping the 026 is to have a backup saw.
