Does anyone use a grain mill to grind whole grain (wheat) flour? If so what brand? I am looking at purchasing a mill because I like baking bread and it seems like whole grain is better for you.

Yes, my wife uses one and I believe it is called a wisper mill. It was not cheap, but they have had excellent service. They even replaced the whole unit when the part that was supposed to fix it did not work. I'll double check on the brand and reply back.
 
Does it make economic sense to mill yourself? We pay about twice the price of the enriched crap at the grocery store for the unenriched unbleached stuff at the semi-local mill.
 
I'm just starting to mill from whole wheat berries. The wheat berries cost about $13 for 25# at Wallmart. You can eat them whole or cracked like cereal or grind for flour. What I have been reading is that when the mills make flour they take everything good out so they can get the shelf life. Fresh ground whole wheat bread is also lighter and less dense than bread made with processed flour. The wheat berries have a really long shelf life if kept sealed in a cool dry place. It only takes about 2/3 cup to make 1 cup of flour, about 2 minutes to grind I think. The family grain mill is the mill I am about to order. It can be hand cranked or hooked up to my wife's Kitchenaid mixer.
