well, another morning of cold...not as bad but still had -11f. wind chill of -20 to -30. crap for outside. i know, i know, it is getting better. a lot of the ice shacks are gone from the lake now. cut a hole through the ice and still had almost 24" of solid ice, though! but the sun does have some kick to it now!!

We are in basketball mode. Fifties and sunny during the day and twenty at night. I say it again for the 1,000th time. Wood burner's hell.

When you guys with a furnace just kick back.

Cold here as well, last couple mornings were below zero. Still lots of snow on the ground and plenty of ice on the lake but it can't last forever.

To make you feel better. 4ft+ on the bigger lakes. Sun up at 8am and sundown around 7pm. -40 this morning and a high of -20.
Clear and cold. Ice fishing will be good till at least the last week of April. Still lookin forward to Ice fishin in a T-shirt at 65 out with a good couple ft of ice. That will be in a good month or so yet.
Cheers and enjoy your early spring from my point of view.

15°f with 75 MPH N winds here.
Snow gone off the lake, 4' of ice, can skate across the lake by trying to stand up( which is pretty hard)
Wind chill chart don't go to 75 mph, but when I went to get the mail,
(which by the way is dam cold)
dropped a junk mail catalog,
one junk mail catalog is headed south, if you see it Bgreene, it yours. I think a burpee seed catalog. (some shingles on their way too)
Kill groundhogs! :)

Uncle B, its funny you say that. When I did live down south and lined up on the freeway, lined up to cash a cheque, lined up to buy groceries , lined up to launch the boat and played dodge dart on the lake with lemmings rushing into getting their weekend in and have a morgage till I die.......I thought, life DOESN'T have to be like this. ;-)

Cheers

I'm guessing Michigan
Upper Peninsula ??

Yooperdave, your location says u.p. Where is that?

Michigan. U.P.: Upper Peninsula

Yuppers. Yooper is from the great Upper Peninsula of Michigan. For those who do not know, a peninsula is a 3 sided parcel. If you can picture MI, there are 2 peninsulas, the upper and the lower. The lower is what most folks think of when it come to Michigan simply because of the mitten shape. The upper and lower are actually quite different in climate and geography. The upper is more sparsely populated (nice!) with lots of national forest land. Does anyone remember Hiawatha? The Hiawatha National Forest is in the upper peninsula. We nick named our youngest son Watha. So whenever we would see him coming from somewhere or I'd get home, we'd say, "Hi ya, Watha."

Daffodils . . . mowing lawns . . . you guys are killing me here . . . my daffodils (which are near my house foundation) are literally buried under 5 feet of snow . . . and my lawn is under 2+ feet of snow.

I do however like the longer days . . . which will get even longer on the 13th when Daylight Savings Time begins . . .

I thought the number of hours in the day was always the same.... just a shift in the daylight hours.... but what do I know ? (couldn't resist)

One side of my house is bare yard, the other side is 5' snow drifts, back garage door drifted in.
45- 75 mph wind for 2 days. Sunny days anyway

5 min 45 sec more daylight tomorrow! Only two more months until the leaves appear.
Yep, only 6 more weeks of winter, "ice worms" saw their shadow when the wind blew the snow off the ice.

i was going to ask if you had ice worms near you. heard they're unbeatable for fishing! also heard that they can actually burrow their way through "skim ice" that forms over the ice fishing hole...as long as its no more that 1" thick.
