Just finishing up my first season with a new Alderlea T-5. We loved the heat without the guilt of cranking up the thermostat. Our power rates have gone up so much between this year and last, its hard to tell how much we saved. Regardless, I'll never go back to electric heat.
My T-5 door was tight from the first fire. Figured I would give it some time before starting to monkey with it, so we lived with it all winter. Looking for your advice or experience with a similar situation, sound like most of them are tight.

Its nice and tight when the stove is cold, but when its hot it swells enough to make the door feel like its welded solid. Dollar bill test is just about perfect, maybe a little loose in a couple spots but hard to tell with a T-5 because of the knife edge door. Anyway, the dilemma being, I don't want the door any looser but the latch is too tight. Ideas? Anybody?

Thanks, Ryan

I think you will find that the latch receiver is bolted onto the stove. You could loosen it and see if you can get it to drop just a hair lower. Or you could be lazy like me and just take a pair of vice grips or channellocks and just slightly bend out the receiver tab. That worked like a charm on our stove.

Now that I get down on my knees and look at it, you are correct. Never saw those bolts before. Also looks like the catch is reversible for future wear. After looking close at the catch, looks like a defect in the cutting of the part. I think I can file down a little of the tab and make some relief for the bearing. I'll get a picture

Begreen, what did bending the tab do for your door seal?

I gave it just a tweak of a bend, not a lot. The door seal has remained good and my wife doesn't have to fight the door latch anymore.
