Still debating on a new stove, and I'll probably make another post asking for some more advice there, but right now I have just a few in mind, quad, alderlea, and jotul namely. I hate asking this kind of question but I have a lot of spring projects planned and have some extra cash from taxes, bonuses, etc, but still not enough to do everything I plan this spring.

I have been in touch with 4 local dealers in about a 60-100 mile range. They are all charging MSRP for the stoves I am looking at. I know folks have gotten deals from time to time, and was hoping for some 'end of season' discounts, even 10% is significant when your talking 2-3 grand. (yeah I know there is the tax credit plus quad has a small manufacturers rebate right now - one reason I am even considering buying right now).

I just cant believe every dealer here is selling at full MSRP. A couple dont stock a lot of stoves and want to charge shipping on top of that.

Does anyone know of any dealer around Ohio or maybe even north/western PA that is offering any kind of sale and the 3 brands I am looking at?

My dealer is small and does not have "sales" but he can do really good on price. That is for sure! He only sales Buck and Napolean. He prefers Buck but that is what he been burning for quite some time. I will PM his number if you like?

I don't pay msrp for much of anything, at least anything I'm paying hundreds or thousands for. Tell them you are going to spend some money with the guy who earns it.

Hey Ohio i know up here there is Luces' and also Coal and Woodburner Shop in Toledo. I know Luces' likes to pretty much do all their own installs

plus i see i shoulda copyrighted my name too..... ;-P

I got my stove at Coal and Woodburner in Toledo. They seemed decent to deal with and answered my questions which for the most part matched up with what I had learned here on the forums. Not sure about prices as the insert I wanted was at the bottom end of the range at $899 and I wasn't expecting a super deal. They have website that gave pricing so you can double check that against what you have already found. http://www.coal-woodburner.com/ I did by my stove pipe online as it was cheaper with smooth wall and insulation than what most of the shops were selling just normal flex pipe for...

I am not sure if you wait a bit into the summer and see if they have sales or and get rid of old models? Not sure how the industry works that way.

Good luck!

Tim

Thanks for the responses fellas.

Thanks but I have already narrowed my selection down to mainly 1, with two other possibilities (the three in my OP) doesnt look like your dealer has any of these.

Hmm well maybe I just need to wheel and deal with my local dealers. There are several, but none gave me the impression the price was negotiable. I even asked a couple about when they may have sales, said I just couldnt pay full price. Two of my dealers had a stove they were willing to deal on, a deal that didnt happen or something like that, and its a nice stove a Harmon Oakwood (surprisingly that both dealers had this particular model they wanted rid of) but I've heard enough bad things about the refractory that I'm staying clear of it. One dealer said sometimes they have sales around this time and just checking back with him the other day they had no sales (except the Oakwood) and quoted me a price on a quad cumberland gap that was the same msrp price I was quoted last year. Same for the Jotul 400/500. Unfortunately no one stocks PE here so my 2nd choice would have to be special ordered. I didnt even bother asking for any specials on that.

Yeah I think everyone should, but it is such a pain, filing all the paperwork... ;-P

I guess this is more SW Ohio, but I got a good deal on my Buck from Back In Time Stove Shop. I cold called them, asked for the price, and it was so far below the quotes I had gotten previously from other dealers that I didn't even bother calling the rest on my list. Friendly and helpful, too.

Do you know if they carry the brands I am looking at?

There is a PE dealer in Lancaster. David White Services. They have PE, Quad, and a few others.
