Think I'm done except for a few random burns in the AM to take the chill off. Anybody else done? Think I found a post last year dated march 3rd from me stating that I was done.

Burned much less than I thought I would, because I was in a woodburning slump for a couple of weeks and completely shut the stove down and shut off the part of the house with the stove. I'm still behind with getting ahead, but I think I already have everything I need for the 11-12 season. I'll have to get it all stacked to be sure. For me, that's further ahead than I've been before, so I can work on 12-13 this spring.

We're in shoulder season burning for sure. Some morning and evening burns , but the heat pump is doing the bulk of the load now.

I am still loading up the Fireview, but now I dial back to 0.5 and get 11 hour burns and am still in the catalytic "zone"!

It's absolutely amazing how long this thing cranks out decent heat when the wood is dry. Cat's are perfect in the Spring!

I have not yet declared it over for Central NY. I will make a public announcement within a couple of weeks. Govern yourselves accordingly.

I'd guess at least another month here. It has been warmer though, but it's hit and miss. Was in the mid 30s earlier this week, but now it's cooled down a bit. 6* right now, talk on the radio about below zero for tonights lows.

Yeah, but shoulder season up here tends to go on until about late June some years! :)

It's not THAT cold just damp and grey.

For those of us who heat 100% with wood, the season is far far from over. We are only 2/3 through the season, will be burning until mid June.

I do rejoice in the arrival of the daylight savings time switch as well as milder temperatures which do allow for a single good burn in the afternoon to raise house temps from 65 to 80.

It lasted through July last year, but I'm not burning wood when it gets above 50F, I'm burning electrons instead.

no doubt, HB. my furnace is still running, so the need to heat still exists as long as the temps are below 70 and/or the solar gain from the day can't carry the house through the night.

For me, the rewards start getting to a point where they don't outweigh the work involved with the whole process. This wouldn't be the same if these temps were in the fall. I'm refreshed and anxious to burn wood when I've been away from it all summer long!

If I had no other source, though, I'd be chugging along as always. Actually, today ended up being mid 50s, so I'll probably run like normal until we actually hit 60 something.

With the price of heating oil over $3.50/gallon the furnace will be left stone cold. That means the Fireview will have to provide 100% of the heat even on the 1/2 warm 1/2 cool days know as shoulder season. I'm not even tempted to take the easy way out and flip that thermostat switch. My oil nozzle is rated at .75 GPH, it's like watching a $10 bill fly up the flue every 2.5 hours or so.

oil prices are crazy right now, makes me glad to have primary of NG. It's been so cheap this year that i haven't been afraid to really use the furnace.

Same here! I think we were still having fires in May last year. It takes the dampness and chill out of a rainy spring day.

Still 30's/40's for the most part during the day here.

Same here. Usually 24/7 burning for another month, then mornings and evenings until mid-May.. then maybe just evenings until the end of May. Latest I've gone is a few evenings the first week of June a few years ago when we had a cold rainy summer. Snow is still deep in the woods. Looking forward to getting back to cutting.

51 outside is what the I/O thermometer says, but the snow is still deep in the yard. It will be cold again tomorrow. Stove is idling along and will likely remain lit for several more weeks on and off. We are NG here too, so we could rely on the furnace. I just don't want to.

we still have quite a stretch to go through here. last night, i had -10f!!! but, like i've been telling all, the highways are bare now!

We are on 52f days now, and fire up around midday until evening, no other heating.

I suspect we will be heating until at least mid April, just burning odd shaped bits of wood, leaving the neatest stuff for a decorative stack by the stove over the summer.

Trouble is, then we'll have to remember how to cook in the kitchen, all our food is cooked on the wood stove.......

Yeah, I'm close to being down for the season. A fire here and there but not too many lastely. Overall a successful second season for me!

I think we have at least another month and a half until shoulder season really starts. We are having the best/worst snow storm of the winter right now, up to 15cm of wet snow coming off Lake Huron. Only 0c but the stove is keeping things toasty, the wind is gusting 60kph. Pleased for those who can dial it down abit, enjoy!

Heck, that's only a 6" dusting for Boston. Just brush it off with a broom! :cheese:

I find it really easy to deal with this weather having a cat stove. Last night's load was still faintly glowing in the stove almost 14 hours after it was put in. The house was still 69 degrees and there was no sign of sunshine outside, though the temperature was 46 outside. I decided to catch the last few coals in the bottom of the stove and throw a couple of splits in around 2pm. Then the sun came out. I shut the air way down and let the cat do the work. No sign of smoke outside, though the stove looked like there was no fire in it. The inside temp got to 76 and my wife complained that the house was too hot. I still have coals in it now from the three small splits I put in at 2pm. Inside temp is at 72. I'll put in a half load for an overnighter and still have coals to restart tomorrow morning if needed.

As far as being done, not by a long shot! I don't want the furnace to kick on at all for the rest of the year. I already spent an extra 100 gallons of oils this winter, due to small wood supply. I'll have a lot of work before I can say I'm ahead on my wood supply. Rest of the week is supposed to be somewhere between the teens and upper 40's depending on what day or time it is!

At any rate Danno, good luck. If you're really done, see you next year!

Chris

Season is far from over. Stove is still going 24/7, but im loading a little less frequently, as temps start to get warmer.

I'm burning a fire right now, but I haven't had a fire since yesterday morning. I think it will be like that for the next couple of weeks. small fires to take the chill out.

i hope i can burn off all of these wood i have left! looks like about a facecord 1/2 and gotta try burn all of that before April 10th we are getting the 50's in the next 3 days man i think i might have to give them away if its not burnt out by the next 3 weeks because i am moveing the hell out of this house it was a hard winter in this house fuel oil alone would cost 300-600 a month here unfreakin real with wood and oil we spent almost a 1000 on oil and wood together so far and we are done!! lol
