Feeling the Heat

Im in the Pgh area and have had to call several dealers to get prices. I can't find any dealers that advertise their prices online (in Western PA).

The lowest price I got over the phone was $2000 but I have to buy it in March (this month) before he sends it back to the warehouse. If I wait till Fall he thinks it will be ballpark $2600 but would not even guarantee that price.

If I could get some people to chime in on how much they paid (and what options contributed to the cost) it would be very helpful.

Im assuming you all bought during/start of the burning season?

If the numbers are all high then I may have to bite the silver bullet (sell some silver) and buy it from the $2K guy this month and stare at it for 7 months.

Any info appreciated cause Im gonna pull the trigger on a BK King this fall for sure as soon as I find the cheapest dealer.

Ill gladly drive my pickup out of state if I can save several hundred dollars.

Hi Smokey. Now, this is just me, but if you don't go for the $2K quote, well... I guess you have some info. I didn't, about price reduction. My latest quote for a Parlor, gold door and rails w/ blowers, tax incl. was about $2600.00, plus some truck freight. My understanding is anything East of the Mississippi garners another $1K in retail price.(may or may not be true now, don't know) ---2K for a new King, yeah, sounds pretty good to me.

Thanks for the info
now im thinking about driving to CO to save a grand....:=)

A BKKing Classic at my local dealer is just under $2200. That includes the glass in the door. I am 75 miles from the Cdn. BK manufacturing plant.

Snap that one up for $2000. I don't think you'll get a better deal anywhere!

No, my cost is $2600 + truck freight. Your cost might be $1K higher.($3600)- wait until others chime in, your price "should" be higher than mine, that's why I think $2K is a very nice price.

Ah, got it.

[edit] so I just found this link

http://woodstovesguide.com/blaze-king-wood-stove-pricing.html

>>>> King Classic - KEJ 1107 - Price Range: $1842-$2621

which says 2600 is the upper end of pricing and there are deals under $2K to be had
[/edit]

yeah, I think the better deals are not in my region

Smokey, all I will say, is if you try to hold out to save another $100-150, you will come up short. Buy the stove @ $2K, you can deal with it in the garage for a few months. Gives you plenty of time to learn to stop throwing wet clothes in it, and expecting them to dry. :cheese:

Keep in mind, stove prices will escalate in tandem with petroleum prices, so if we have a sustained oil price spike, you can say goodbye to a $2000.00 stove. I'll never forget in spring 2008 seeing Harman P61's going for $4500 on ebay, and pellets selling for $400 a ton. Stove's were on backorder, people screaming that they couldn't gte a stove regardless of price. Buy the stove now, get started on your wood supply and enjoy the peace of mind that come heck or high water, you WILL have heat.

That is a bargain. If it doesn't have blowers, I highly recommend you work it into the deal.

+1 to jump on that deal! Sounds *too* good for east coast pricing. . .make sure he's not giving you a quote on the smaller Princess model, which lists @ $2600, and for which $2k is a good price. . .good enough to consider if the Princess will meet your needs.

I paid 3200 last fall..if it wasn't for the tax rebate deal I don't think I would have bought it.
Jump on it for 2k!

Right,,tax credit.
Den has it right.

Shipping costs east of the Mississippi are high for this big heavy stove. You might want to consider a Buck 91 in your area. Or for a reasonable price, get an Englander 30NC. You can buy 4 of them for the price of the BKK in PA.

The only cost high east of the Mississippi is the toll over the Mississippi. He has a $2k deal on a local stove that he should take advantage of before it is no longer an option.

Smokey, if you are considering the BK, and after seeing some of your flue pics and wood seasoning, I really think that you better have a plan for a full 8" liner, seasoned wood that isn't in full rounds. Not running your stove over temp as I saw in the pics as that will just kill the Cat and stoves performance. No heat reclaimer on it also. Flue gasses will already be to low. You are going to get less heat out of it compared to the NC-30 you currently have. I imagine you are going to run two stoves and help take the current load of of the NC-30?
Just my honest helpful 2 cents.

I assumed if I ran the BKK optimally then

1) no creosote - thus no chimney liner or rebuild etc - my chimney will handle an 8" stack pipe
no sweat - I have draft galore!

2) It will produce WAY more heat than the 30 even w/out heat reclaimer

3) The BKK will replace the 30NC in the basement and even send leftover heat to the first floor

Why do you think the big BKK 1007 model will not "out heat" the 30NC?

No, I don't think it will out heat the 30NC even running it wide open, which kind of defeats the purpose of the cat stove. However, the cat should make shoulder season more manageable.

hmm... ok time to rethink. Back to the drawing board.

thanks

I don't care which stove can run the hottest ..blast furnace type deal.
I want the heat to be as steady as possible over the burn.
The BK does that.
I seldom ever see temps over 525 stove top..no need to.
I burn 24/7 so the cat stove works for me.
If I was just going to build a hot fire once in awhile I would have a tube stove..maybe.

I think if you can get 24 hours or more easy during the shoulder season on a load..that is a beautiful thing..lol.

I have had people in my house say that my stove does not seem to be putting much heat out..I just show them the thermometer ..usually close to 75 or more and tell them that load as been going for 12 hours or whatever.

I better run to Home Depot before they run out of NC30 deals, my 4.3 cu ft steel stove is only meant to burn low and slow  You guys are kidding right? I bought a big steel cat stove because of the wide range of predictable controllable output not because it can burn for 2 days in October if I use my primo wood. While it spends most of the time purring along, it has no problem putting out when its cold and blowing.

Smokey, the only way I get away with burning less than dry wood is to burn it hot for at least the first third of the burn cycle, and that is with a straight up double wall into class A chimney. If you expect to get long burns with less than dry wood, you are going to have an unsafe mess in your chimney. What's your primary goal? More heat than the 30 or a bigger firebox and more burn control?
