My neighbor told me he is having some dead trees removed from the small woods behind our houses.
He offered me the wood and of course I graciously accepted.
There are two medium sized tress - one is a Redwood.

I have not been able to ID the large one - it is a monster.
I plan to give some away to my other neighbors.
I have come across oak, pignut hickory, and tulip poplar in this area.

Here are the pictures. Looks like it was the victim of lightning.
I'm interested if anyone has any thoughts on it.

Looks like a Red Oak to me. The overall structure of the tree seems Red Oaky, and the bark on the third picture - with the shiny ridges - seems very typical of Red Oak.

There aren't too many Redwoods in Maryland. Are you sure that's what you are getting?

Red oak. For sure.

From the pic's it looks like a monster....Lets do some milling on that one! lol

I agree, looks like northern red oak for sure.

I'm also not sure what redwood you are talking about. eastern red cedar?

I don't believe redwood grows on the east coast.

I am not sure about the Redwood - did not think we had any around here.
Will try to post a picture as it has just been topped for now.
