I live in SE Pa. where it was a colder than normal winter. First 2 years I ran an Englander 25 PVC stove with the OAK and used 3 ton of pellets as my main heat for my rancher. This past winter we replaced the Englander with a Harman P43 without the OAK and will be ending up using 3.5 to 4 ton of pellets. Just wondering if it was the colder weather, or the not using the OAK with the Harman or both. Any thoughts? Did you use more pellets this year because of a colder winter?

Normally use 2 - 2.5 tons here.
This winter she gobbled up over 3 tons.
Pretty sure everyone has been reporting
it's due to a colder than normal heating
season. Glad it's coming to an end!

Same here. Still burning, but so far I have burned through about 1/2 ton
more than normal this season.

I also live in Southeastern Pa and I don't think this winter was colder than last.

I just checked my last three PECO bills including this past months and here are the average monthly temperature comparisons
between the current month and last year.
40 vs. 35
30 vs. 29
32 vs. 33

I've only had my Harman for a little over a month so I can't comment on pellet usage.

I'm in eastern PA and thought it was colder this winter than last. I didn't have my pellet stove yet, but did go through an extra tank of heating oil.
My brother has burned pellets for a few years now and made the comment that he regularly goes through three tons and this heating season so far, he has burned an extra 1/2 ton or so and is still grabbing a few bags here and there.

I order 5 tons every year and usually end up with about 10 bags left. I have 20 bags left as of right now which I may or may not finish as I am still burning but not on warmer days. So for me it seems as though the slightly colder January did not change my usage. I was worried for a while that if February was the same then I would run out, but luckily we started to warm up a little and have continued to do so.

I figured I'd use around 1/2 ton of pellets this year but January and February were so far below average in terms of temperature that I blew through over a ton in those 2 months alone. The good news is that Spring is around the corner and the heating season is winding down, hoping to do my end-of-season cleaning in the next few weeks and be done burning until next season.

Degree days up a bit this year over last up here in CNY. Do the math, check your degree day totals from this winter to last, see how it compares to your pellet increase. I know our customers are reporting 20% or so increase in oil, propane, pellets and coal.

Here in Dutchess county we typically burn just over 2.2 tons to heat our 2000 sqft raised ranch. I added a lot of insulation so our consumption is generally on the lower side. This year I have 2 bags left of the third ton - and it's still cold at night! So were up in pellet consumption too.

I stayed just about the same on pellet consumption, but did burn close to a cord of wood extra.

Hello woodporn. Hows your arse feel after that Jets beatdown? Did you ever get that big green footprint cleaned offa your rump?

I'll get banned for this one.

Don't you worry.....We'll be video taping before you know it!

Congrats on the win!

P.S. I think you guys infected the team w/bed bugs.

The pellet man in Jay Maine told me that most all his customers are reporting using more pellets at about 20% more which is what you saw in an earlier post. Seems consistent. I usually go through 5 tons, but will be a little over 6 tons before this winter draws to a close. I started my seedlings yesterday so this winter has to move on out soon!

Are you serious, its western ny and we heat well into may/june.....

Can't say for absolute sure, casue this is the first season that we have heated 100% with the nut shells.
In the past we used the Quad with pellets for about 75% of the job and the shells with one big stove during the coldest times.

Since Feb of last year we have not used any pellets at all and run the two Whitfields on the shells.

So far this season we have plowed through about 3000-4000 pounds of shells.

If this season is anywhere like last, we will run the stove off and on up to the first week of June.

Tonight it was in the low 40's and the little stove was just not getting it done, so I cranked up the big one and shut the little one off.

House is a cozy 70F now.

Just right
