THe bottom of the NC-30 (the pedestal) does not even get warm so i dont know what the big deal is about bottom clearances.
Radiant heat possibly but the floor doesnt get warm either.
The idea that the plywood under the tile could conceivably ignite is pretty far fetched.

Build a hearth pad that meets the requirements. They may seem excessive, but the test procedure where they were developed is a worst case scenario. Build your hearth pad to handle the worst case scenario and never worry about it.

edit, missed one of the pics

Not to be a buzz kill, but that does not look like a great room to me, just a living room next to the kitchen. Great rooms are usually much more open than that, like if the kitchen was part of the room instead of the door way and the 'window' into the kitchen, and even that would barely do it. In my book, it need to be more of a living room, kitchen and dining room that are wide open except for a few columns - or not. They usually have vaulted ceilings too...
lmao.... oh no! im gonna have to start calling it my livingroom number two..... I am so bumed......

thank you for the worries guys..... but once again....... there is durock layers underneath...............so i guess no one has ever checked their hearth temp while at running temp?

he can call it a great room if he likes, maybe its a "great" room to him, you know, like hey man thats a "great room"! he didnt call it a huge room.

thank you very much guys, greatly appreciated....... ps........THE PIPE CAME IN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..... looks like this weekend ill be missing my bow competition and installing this beast!.... probably friday night ill use her as a chimineya(sp?) and have a few cocktails around her as I cure it out on the patio! lol

pics please! i enjoy them no matter what the other guys say! hehe

Please remember for the sake of everyone, you can't call it a living room unless you meet the minimum requirements of living in it for a certain number of hours per week. Oh, and if you ever eat anything in there (rumors say it might be next to the kitchen), you my friend have neither a great room or living room; it would be a dining room.

Looks great to me! Nice job.

Currently nc30 is running at 500 stove top and the floor under it is 95.

how hot does it actually get under your englander stove? Its hard to imagine it would get over 200 degrees
Normally, I don't guess it would get all that hot, but I think the regs are to protect against worst-case scenarios like a runaway stove, etc.

Wow. Makes me question everything I have ever thought about room classifications. For what it is worth, your rooms looks great to me also.

thanks all.... and to burn it,...... thanks for the post bud,.... i didnt think It would get that hot..................hmmmmmmm,.... maybe i should call it the"....LIDININGKIT room" .. that has a nice ring to it,.... lets say it together now,.... "LI....DINING....KIT room" but whatever we do,... from now on we shall no longer refer to it as the"great" room..................or you will die.............lol
