Well, as the winter is winding down i started to do some paperwork figuring out my savings for my first year.

I fired it up around second week of January and have burned around 2 tons for my 2400sq ft house(lignetics). My Oil consumption has gone from 7 gallons per day to about 3. I have already saved about 700 in oil at current prices. I was also able to take advantage of last years tax credit.

Stove has more than payed for itself

2nd week of January and you burned 2 tons?

I fired up my stove in Oct., and it payed for itself before christmas. Prpane is not cheap.

I started at the end of January, and have burned just under 1 ½ tons, heating most of 2400 sq ft. Well insulated house, keeping stove area at 76º, rest of house around 68-70º.

AGREED Indy3.. Paid almost $3,600 a year on average for Propane. Filled the tank every 3-4 months. Been over 18 months and still have a little over 50%. About 3 months ago I checked it and thought it was 40-45%. But to my surprise. I was wrong, don't know what I saw. I should get about 3 years in-between fillings. Only using it for cooking. LP furnace gets started twice a year, just to make sure it still works. Other than that, It just sits.

So spending around $1,000 a year on Pellets. Not a problem as far as I am concerned. Propane Is WAY Expensive!!!

To the OP and everyone else, I am glad to see your all saving money. I have a buddy that has NG and he only saves around $100 a year (plus or minus) compared to using his Furnace. But its $100. Some people would say your crazy to save just $100, and put up with the maintenance. But for the money and the pleasure of creating your own heat. PRICELESS!

put my stove in dec 11 and up till now have used two and a half ton one tone of home depot and two ton of cubex and have ued less than a quarter tank of oil normally i would have used at least three hundred or more gallons by now

I started burning on 9 October and have had the stove fired for 157 of the 158 days since then, pellet consumption is 237 bags.

House is 2688 square feet about 1844 square feet are being heated on two floors. This year has been colder than the last two, normal consumption for us is 5 ton. We will go over that a bit this year from the looks of things.

The oil fired system is only used to heat DHW and to maintain 50°F in the garage (doesn't normally come on for garage heating).

I also manually fire the stove so I probably use more pellets than I would if I put the stove on a thermostat.

Sounds great!! Bet you are warmer too.
We have reduced our oil use by 500 gals. 925 to 425
Still burning oil for DHW and a little to keep 2nd floor at 67 on real cold days.
I would say this year we have saved at least $600.
Based on $2.89/gal budget plan and $199/ton for 4 tons.
We have about 65 bags left out of the 4 tons.
Been running steady since mid October. Time to get pellets for next year!
Heating around 1540 sq ft. 1st and 2nd floors of small Cape.
Needs more insulation!!
