Perhaps a stupid question...

In the process of troubleshooting my auger motor, I had the exhaust fan out and cleaned it. The gasket is starting to flake off and is now bare (mostly) in on spot.

Other than obviously creating a better seal, does this have any other purpose? And any negatives to running it like this for a bit until I find a new one?

I've noticed that some "cut" their own. What do you recommend for that?

Thanks :)

No stupid q's ever!

The gasket material is Lytherm and it does 2 things. Seals the joint and helps reduce vibration transfer into the stove chassis. If you did run it with a bad gasket it might have a serous leak and you might get smoke smell in the house.

Some have used high heat silicon in a pinch, But its hard to remove later on and might transfer vibs into the chassis(stove might make some vibrating noises). Using the stock gasket is probably the best route to travel.

Just fyi if you need it later on. :)

Thanks, J :)

New motor is on and running well (quieter than the old one to). Put the new gasket on at the same time. All seems as it should.

I actually keep a "nose" out for smoke...was getting a smell from the rear of the stove last season (from the pipe) and a couple of days later the house filled with smoke due to a blocked pipe. Lesson learned...lol.

Thanks ;)

How do you like your ef3?

I just found out that enviro is swichting all those gaskets over to preformed silicone, so that they will be reusable. Should be in stores by the year end

There must be something in the NB air, as my Meridian motor failed last week as well. Got a replacement today
and after a battle getting the fan blade of the old one , I'm warm again.
Hopefully this one will last a few years , or until I upgrade.
