lowes in Epping NH went went up to 499 a bag and the guy told me they are gonna send there pellets to there warehouse till fall
i didnt know lowes has a storage warehouse

I really don't understand the big box stores marketing strategy. For months they sell at too low of a price moving a lot of product. Then they raise the price too high and want to sit on product. Sales 101 class => don't sit on product too long, take the slight loss and keep it moving.

Dont buy their crap.....I can still get 200 a ton here in Northern Maine.........8 to 10 hours north of everyone...Be very picky with your spring buys.

They are DOWN to $6.49/bag here. By far the most expensive way to heat. I don't know anyone that does.

But aren't all the prices in Alaska higher than everywhere else except maybe Hawaii? Are those expensive pellets even made in Alaska, or imported?

I buy pellets that have been stored indoors, in a warhouse. And when I buy my pellets, they are sitting next to a bunch of other pellets, not fertilizer, flowers and flower pots.

I have worked at the Lowe's Distribution Center that covers the 81 stores in the northeast for the past six years and we have never gotten pellets in stock. I believe they come direct from the vendors. That being said I have no idea of how they price or store the pellets throughout the year.

Never understood that about the big box stores. They should be 5 bucks a bag sept-feb and then drop em to 3 or whatever to unload their stock in the spring to AVOID the expense of having to ship them back. I think they are more focused on grabbing market share when the season is underway to have any idea what to do to maintain margins. Maybe they should hire me as National director of marketing for Hearth Products...or NDOMFHP.

You guys give local HD and Lowe's store personnel too much credit for knowing how or what is going to be done. The managers will know what they are gonna do day by day when they log-in each morning.

Lowes on Long Island NY lowered there pellet prices to meet home depots pellet price of 3.47. According to my store manager at that price they were loosing .10 a bag. Home depot stopped selling them for the season and Lowes raised there prices back to 5.97 a bag. The only box store on L.I. that I no of now is lowes of Medford which got 1150 bags on Wednesday at $5.97. I just happened to be there when thet came in.

My son worked at Lowes. He said that they get pellets delivered to the stores and they will sell everything. He said that's why you can buy an Englander stove in the summer for $500. They do not return anything to the warehouse. He just told me that if Home Depot raised their prices, then Lowes will too. That said, it makes no sense to raise the price now only to lower it later to get rid of the pellets. I know I would never buy them at that price.

I guess they will just charge what they feel they can charge. At least they are not in cahoots with HD....or are they?

We GOT JACKED here in Salem NH This Week by Lowe's and they are not selling very many!!!

See Pic of Maine's Choice at Lowe's Salem NH below!! Last week they were selling for $4.68 per bag!

I stopped by Lowes and they were still selling pretty good at $5.97. I bought a half dozen Stove Chow at Tractor Supply for 4.87. I was just checking prices but was compeled to grab some even though I am sitting on 4 ton. Weird how that happens.

The "thinking" may be that with the lengthening of heating season we are experiencing, many people who are looking to buy will need them now and be willing to pay a premium. That's the only thing I can think of.

As far as transporting them somewhere for storage until a few months from now, I don't understand that "thinking" at all.

The Lowes forklift driver said it didn't make sense either. Funny how the end users understand it better than the arm chair managers.

For that price I'll have maine woods from
Dodge Grain in Salem, NH
$230/ton, or $5.00/bag

I hope they are not the same pellets they had a couple weeks ago. I forget the brand but they were fast burning, low heat, high ash garbage. I bought 6 bags of okies from a supplier in Copiague for $5.70 per bag. What a difference! I may go back and buy a ton to start me off for next season.

The family (mother, grandmother, 3 kids) that I helped with getting their stove running, I visited today and they told me that they tried a 2nd brand of pellets that were recommended to them (they previously used the Bear Mountain pellets -I sold them a bag and they bought more for $5.00 at Ace Hardware). The bag they bought at True Value Hardware cost them $7.00! Ouch! Someone at the store lied and said they would last about a third longer.

Bear Mtn. is the best I have burned. Did you find something better...or just cheaper? The Bear Mtns work out to about $5/bag around here.
