I am looking to replace my pick up. I've been looking at a new 2010 Ford F-150 XLT Super Cab 4X4 left over. The sticker price is 35,460, what do you folks think is a fair offer. My eyes are bugging out of my head trying to reseach this question on the web.
Thank's,
Chris

Do you need it or want it? It makes a difference.

Need it, try 30K. Want it, try 26K. It's probably not going anywhere given the gas prices going up before they go down.

I would low ball them start at 10k lower than sticker and slowly work up. Start at 25k and go from there. A good resource is edmunds.com they will tell you what the dealer paid and what rebates the dealer or you the consumer can get and also local price differences.

Edit since it's a want and not need don't be afraid to get up and leave if they don't seem to want to wiggle on the price. If they have you contact info they will be in touch very soon if they can go lower to get rid of the leftover gas guzzler and if they do go lower beat them up a little bit more.

Make them an offer that you feel comfortable with, if they say no give them your phone number or email address. Tell them if they change their mind to call you and then walk out the door.

Thank's all, I've been thinking the same way. I give them and offer 10K less I know they will tell me no. They have my number if they want to get rid of the truck they will call.

If you've decided that's the truck you want then ignore the following... But you may be able to get a smokin' deal on a gas-or-diesel 3/4 ton these days with prices going up. It it's a commuter truck then probably not relevant, but if it's a work truck or for pulling/hauling then you might appreciate the heavier build and a difference in MPG that's not large, and offset by a lower price. My Dodge diesel, which I bought new 2 years ago, was out the door for only a bit more than you offered; if I'd gone with the gas engine, it would've been even less. I called around several dealers internet sales depts and asked them to meet a price and one did. GL-

By the way, Crabs, I just bought an '09 and I love it.

I had pretty good luck this last time by e-mailing a whole bunch of dealers, telling them what I wanted in a truck and asking them for their out-the-door price . . . from that last I sorted out a few oranges from the apples and then contacted the dealers that had what I wanted . . . in general the price was about $10K less than the sticker price when I figured in the rebates.
