Silicone grease in an aquastat well?

My mother-in-law's hot water tank was installed recently and it looks like the contractor neglected to use the heat transfer paste that comes with the aquastat. As a result the tank runs quite a bit hotter than the aquastat setting. Can anybody suggest a source for the heat transfer paste other than buying a new aquastat? Is there something else that will work like silicone grease? Thanks for your help!

Yes I used copper based antisieze in my wells that were in my storage tanks for my controller. Just keep loading the well up and poking the paste down until the air is out and it's full enough for the probe. Worked great.
