I am looking at a new Equinox but it has some flood damage to it. The stove is new but the firebox grate has rust and the bottom is very dirty, from the water. Can you tell me what to look for or inspect to make sure the stove is still worth buying?

Price I will find out tonight when I go look at the stove and check out the damage.
Thank you for the information, the parts list is also a big help.

If it was a steel home depot $799 stove discounted to $599 for a little rust, who cares, but this is a grandaddy stove from a excellent manufacturer. I'd offer him $2500 for the damaged one with no warranty, or grab a new one from him and make the best deal possible.

Yes, that was me, my second choice is the Jotul f600, do you know much about those and how they compare to soapstone?
gonefishin said:you are right, I have been crunching the numbers for a couple days to make sure. It sure is nice to buy something that expensive that actually gives you a return on your money!

Good call, stove sold for 2600, I was third in line, 2 hrs early, and of course person first in line wanted equinox, so I'm bumed, they are selling new equinox at $3300, so, back to square one...not sure if I want to spend that much but that stove fits right for my house....Ughhhhhh.
