well i got my set up pretty much complete. got the trailer and now he truck. now im time to really hall in some one.

Eco, if you run out of work, you can come to our place so you can use that truck and trailer. We certainly can find some wood to haul and even have a nice place you can dump it. Looks good

it's an 01 250 powerstrkoke diesel. And dennis I may take ya up on that offer lol. Might be a long haul just for some wood. Lol
 
Nice setup. With the money you save burning wood it should pay for itself in about 100 years!
 
Didn't Pay as much as think for everything. But the investment was because I'm starting to sell firewood. Sold my old truck for a few thousand Put the cash from that plus what I had saved for truck All in all I've spent just a tad over 9000. That price includes new splitter and trailer.
 
Sorry, I was just being a wise ass. I didn't realize you were running a business. I was commenting on how we tend to get carried away with out firewood tools. I spend about $900 a year to keep my firewood hauler going so that I can haul about $800 worth of wood every year.

Diesel is the only engine that should be offered on trucks. If Chevy would only offer the Tahoe in diesel, I'd be thrilled.

Simply put, that'll never happen. Added cost of a diesel plus the particular maintenance required would send a lot of wanna-be pickup drivers out of the market (which the builders DON'T want to do!)

And lets face it, why would you want a diesel in a lil Ford Ranger, or even a short-bed F-150?
 
I'd love to have the ol 7.3 diesel but wanted a newer truck and I'll tell ya the V10 just hauled back about 8-10,000# of wood over the weekend without complaining. Now some of the windy hilly backcountry roads I was down into 3rd (mainly because if I didnt slow down I'd be in the ditch) but pretty much all the big hills on the highway I stayed in 5th, even though I was only doing about 55 and rpms only at about 1800 it still could climb the hills without loosing speed. And the option was $600 on a brand new truck and included a $200-300 gear upgrade as well. I didnt think that was too shabby! I got 12.2 mpg on the trip and right now gas is about 50-60 cents cheaper a gallon so it almost balances out. My cousins 7.3 he figured he'd be in the 16ish range at most hauling that much and my other cousins new 6.4 gets less than that.

Really wish I had a trailer like that though! Looks perfect for haulin some wood. Mine is a 6x10 too but just a single 3500# axle and short sides - maybe 16" or so. I'm really wanting to beef it up since it is built much stronger, I couldnt put another axle on it without some hacking, but maybe I could swap it out for a 5,000# axle? I'd like to get one with brakes too. If I did that I'd build up the walls a little taller. As it is right now I end up stacking most of the wood in the back of the truck, stacked tightly up a bit higher than the cab. Depending on what wood I'm hauling I'm sure I am a tad overweight. I hit the bump stops around 6,000# I think and yesterday I was about 1/4" from the bump stops with the wood in and trailer hooked up.

I have a 2000 F350 with the 7.3 powerstroke. It's a fine motor but I am not so convinced that the gas V-10 is that much worse overall. It obviously sucks way more fuel, sounds silly, and makes less power, but, it also uses cheaper gasoline, is quieter, is lighter weight for more allowable payload, is cheaper to fix/maintain, it warms up quicker for cab heat, and is much cheaper to buy new or used. I own a diesel, I like diesel, but I am not blind to the benefits of the gas engine.

The reason that the 2001 F250 was so cheap is that it is an ext cab and maybe a long bed. Pretty soft market for anything other than a crew cab. Ford's crew cab is very nice.
 
I am pretty happy with my V10. Very powerful and not nearly as noisy as the Powerstroke. My 2000 V10 is rated at 310 HP and 425 lbft. It gets about better mileage than the 351 did in my '96 F250 and puts out 100 more hp.

Great fire wood hauler. Make sure to check and adjust your trailer brakes at normal intervals. Fuel economy was the winning factor for getting a diesel for me. I have one of the new 2011 F350 6.7L power stroke and empty driving the posted speeds I get 20 MPG. Towing 5 tons I get 15 MPG.

That's great that they have gotten the mileage up a bit. I know that guys with the previous generation Powerstroke were reporting lower numbers. Hopefully the new Ford built engine will prove to be a good one and make up for the all the troubles the 6.0 were having.
 
That is great mileage on that new run ford diesel. You've got balls of steel getting a first year motor in a 50-65000 dollar truck. Remember folks, the 2011 ford 6.7 is not an international diesel like they have been since forever. This 6.7 is a ford design. Very risky.

I spent 11 hours towing a 10,000# toyhauler with a 2011 duramax this weekend. We ran 63 mph and the combo averaged 9.5 mpg. Plenty comfrotable and all that but it used lots of fuel. Good news is that the shortbed gets a huge fuel tank this year, something like 38 gallons, so range is good.
 
Ecocav. how much can that dump trailer legally handle? My father has one rated for 7 ton and delivers log length with it easy money.
I had to buy the long box to get a 37.5 gal tank. I had to make a choice to buy the 2010 with 10 MPG or a new untested 2011 with I was thinking 15 MPG at the time. So far the CEL has been on for more than half the trucks life but it runs great and a computer fix is on the way to fix the light.
