Within a month of buying my Mt Vernon AE insert, the control panel went blank. Quadrafire sent me a new one. Now in my third winter, the control panel went blank again. I spoke with the company and feel their must be a defect if it keeps going blank. They won't replace it and will only warranty a new one for three months. The dealer I bought my unit from went out of business. Any suggestions on where to buy? Anyone else with the same repeated problem? Thanks.

Do you have a surge protector plugged into the stove?

Are there any fuses in there?

I had my control unit changed out like 3 times and went threw 2 thermostats because they kept going blank. The problem with stove was in the back where the thermostat wires connected. If you wiggled them the thermostat would go crazy. They changed the way they were connected and having had a problem since.

Control boards are complex and it's difficult to diagnose anything without testing the board. A new control board for that unit is very expensive (sorry!)-

It may be able to be rebuilt for a lot less-

If you want to try to troubleshoot it yourself, you can get the Troubleshooting Manual, which has control board specs, error codes, and operational symptoms-

I don't see any fuses. I never got around to getting a surge protector - any suggestions on one? Could that have been the cause? I have the wall control in a corner of the dining room - was told static electricity probably ruined my wall control - I am going to order a new one to see if that solves the present problem before investing in a control panel. Would changing the location of the wall control decrease static electricity? Thanks!

I've never heard of static electricity ruining a wall control but I guess it's possible. I don't think changing location would help. Any surge protector should work. Just go to someplace like Staples and get one. Make sure it will handle the voltage for all that you plan to plug into it.

Always use a surge protector... You spent a lot of money on the stove. Spend $30-$40 on a Good Surge Protector.

X2! Don't buy a cheapie - it's a false economy.

I've had the thermostat go blank on mine before. All ll I did was pull the faceplate off, blow the dust out and put back on. That seemed to solve my problem.

How old is your stove? Quite a while ago it seems like I remember an update that they wanted the wires that lead from the thermostat connection block to the control board unfastened. I say unfastened but what there is, is a zip tie holding the wires together. remove the tie. Also while your right at it, check the connections on the block and in the thermostat.
