Anyone burn any black walnut? Got 3 trees gave to me over the weekend. Got them from my new tree cutter/ stump grinding buddy. Says he can keep me on wood year round. Music to my ears. What do you folks think?

Good BTU's.
Expensive wood when in the board form.
Sounds like you go t hooked up :)

Too valuable to burn when the logs are large, straight & defect-free.I burn slabs, milling scraps, branches, tops & ugly pieces though. Not as good as the various Oaks or Hickory, but still good & smells nice.Usually easy to split also.

See if he can give it to you in arrow straight, 20' long trunks and sell it to the lumbermill. Otherwise its good burning wood...especially for the price.

I burn lots of Black Walnut, and it is good firewood, a nice middle-of-the pack sort of wood. The reality of most Black Walnut trees is that they aren't and never will be worth much as lumber. The nice ones might be valuable, but the scrawny, branchy ones in fence rows and backyards are not straight enough, not large enough, and too full of barbed wire or the nails from dog runs and tree houses to be worth milling.

I have been burning Black Walnut in the evenings/night for a month now. I love it. It doesnt burn as long as Oak or Ash or even Cherry, but puts out good heat IMO. Gets my stove a lot hotter than I thought it was going to. Oh and it splits like a dream! And seasons fast......good stuff IMO.

I burn dead walnut whenever some blows over on my property. It burns fine it's definitely not oak but if you leave it in rounds it has a pretty decent burn time. I should say all of it that I have burnt hasn't been over 8 inches in diameter.

Well sounds like I came out OK then . Got the logs here to my house (5 logs approx. 14 ft. long and a gob of firewood ). For about 9 hrs. of slave labor and the man paid my 16 year old man 100.00 for helping. Yes sometimes life is good! The 16 year old man is my son and he says he hates fooling with firewood. ( I DONT BELEIVE HIM).
