Hey Guys,

Finally having my Clydesdale installed and have one small issue.

If its pushed all the way in, it will my hearth extension will be just at 18". If I install it out a couple inches, obviously it will be too short. Should I worry about extending the hearth extension, of just through a pad down???

Its really going to depend on your room setup, and what you want to do. Cheap solution is get a 12" x 48" or 60" ember pad and lay it down for the winter months, in front of your existing hearth. Then pull the insert out to its maximum clearance into the room (to get the most heat from it). The downside is that it'll be kinda cheap looking.

If I was buying this insert, that's what I'd do just so I didn't have to rip up the hardwood around the hearth, because frankly I'm not that handy when it comes to flooring.

We are currently having stone put over trhe old brick. If they add a second layer of stone, that would give me an additional 2 inchs to play with....looks like this stove has a 3 inch difference between being flush and all the way out....might be the way to go...

The front hearth requirement is measured from the front of the door. Based on their schematic I would estimate the front lip at about 7 5/8"". The dealer should be able to measure this for you if it needs to be more exact.

FWIW, the more of the insert that projects into the room, the better is it going to convect.

Anybody know how far the ash lip and motor housing stick out in front of this unit?

Hi Joe:

We've got to see some photos of your install...

From the closed door to the very end of the ash lip it's 5 and 3/16ths inches. When the unit is in it's "full out" position, the ash lip is about 10 inches from the surround - more or less.

Always best to meet at least code. Good choice...
