Anyone here with a interior designer's eye? What is the correct ratio of width to height to depth of a finished fireplace in a family room that is 24' long x 14" wide with a 7 1/2 foot ceiling? The fireplace will be against the 24 foot wall about 1/3 of the way from one end. Thanks

I'm going to go out on a limb here, first of all, I do not qualify as a designer, but will throw out some questions you may need to ask yourself.
Do you want to make this a focal point of the room?
Is this going to be a brick exposure or a pre-fab?
Would you ever think of installing an insert or stove?
Will this be this used for heating or occasional use?
Since the wall is large and the fireplace is off centered, in my OPINION, I would stay with a moderate size, something in a 36" x 25"opening, and embellish the hearth and surround.
