A pellet stove is blamed for a small fire at a 110-year old home in Sunnyside today.

Firefighters found light smoke coming from a home in the 8000 block of VanBelle Road around 12:30 this afternoon. Crews opened a hole in the house and sprayed foam inside, putting the fire out. Damages to the home built in 1901 is $10,000.

Well that is unfortunate for that family that lived there. Dont know what pellet stove they had, but im sure if they had followed the installation guidelines and codes then this wouldnt happen. Have seen some crazy not to code installs in my day and their excuse is always.....but ive had it like this for 10 years and nothing has happened. < shaking my head and raising my fists >

I LOVE when the enthusiastic fire fighters 'Open a hole in the house and sprayed foam inside'. That's where the $10,000 in damages came from. Open the f'ing door, morons! Yes, I know about flashback so OK, feel the damn door first. 'light smoke'......................

I think all these fires are an oil company conspiracy!

I think it depends on the fire department. Ive been a volunteer firefighter for 5 years now, and we go in the house first unless it is fully involved. Light smoke is a breeze to handle for most departments. I guess that fire department is pretty good at poking fire with a stick instead of taking it by the balls. I totally agree that cutting a hole in the side of the house and spraying 2000 gallons of water / foam is not the right thing to do. Go in and find the fire instead of playing the guessing game.

where's the fun in fire fighting if you can't break a few windows, smash a wall and soak the heck out of everything...then check to see that you're at the right place.

joking aside...at least no one was hurt.
