Why Do I Have A Pellet Stove ?

my bad..... I take responsibility for the chickens this time. lol

Buck buck buck buck, its romantic...... Actually to save some bucks, not chickens, but bucks. Get a kick out of when asking my neighbors how much their paying for heat and then tell them how much I paid plus looking at a fire all day and night is really awesome...

My parents are beyond frugal for no good reason. Cheap is more like it. They keep their house at 58 for the morning 2 hours (5-7am) and dinner-to sleep time (5-9pm) 4 hours. the rest of the time, they leave it at 50.
Crazy. They were bad, but not this bad growing up there. we saw 62 for the day time and 58 for the overnights. add hardwood floors (over the garage no less as its a raised ranch) and it was brutal. I hated winters growing up. lol

They used only 350 gallons of oil in an average insulated 1970s 1100 sq ft raised ranch for the entire winter.
At the $3.92 fill up they just had for the first time all season, they spent 200 more than i did to keep my house in the mid 60's (my comfort zone) all winter long :D

It's nice to rub it in. :D I tried to get them to get a stove last year but the old man doesn't want to spend the initial 2-3k on the unit.

LOL. My Wife is jealous of my stoves. Says I spend more time with them and treat them better.

We had gas fired hot air in our 2 story modular. Thermostat would say 71-72, but it would still seem cold. Got to the point where if the heat wasn't running, it just wasn't comfortable. Looked into coal stoves, but the cost of the chimney and dust shut it down. Wood pellets were easy to fire, didn't take much to store, and kept the house super warm. Now we go upstairs where its 71-72 with the stove going, and it feels cool. We burn under 2 tons a winter.

Yes, but there are loads of hidden taxes - on the dealers' equipment, facility, fuel to transport the oil, tons of taxes on the oil, such as wholesale profit taxes, etc, etc. Of course, many of those taxes apply to the distribution of pellets, too. If people knew all the taxes we're paying, there would be a revolt.
The payroll tax is deducted mainly so we won't notice how much is really taken out. If we had to write a check every year for the taxes, people would scream bloody murder. If it's deducted every payday, it's not missed all that much.

Simple... to save greenbacks... and because I was sick of cutting, hauling, splitting, stacking, and then carrying wood to the wood stove.

This is one of the main reasons I stopped working when I was able to. Working 1/3 of the year to advance the careers of those in Washington and my state capitol never floated my boat.

I believe that they are quite hardy but you can check that out by visiting a number of hatchery sites.

As chicks there are no cold weather ones unless their momma (or substitute broody) is with them as chicks require a heat source until fully feathered.

Bought the enviro e3 will be installed in aug. $400.00 for a 100 gal of oil or $400 to heat my 1000 sq ft home for the yr (i hope).

Pellets are better than $3.81 HHO and going up.

We keep them warm with a standard light bulb(95ºF). We adjust the temp by raising the lamp up or down. Here is our new batch of 6 araucana chicks.

Light bulbs (standard incandescent) make good substitute broodys. I prefer a red infrared heat lamp. Still haven't decided on weather to start a new batch of birds this spring.

I keep looking at the chick pictures on that addiction enabling other website but haven't done anything yet. I'm so far behind on yard work it isn't funny. Last year I was looking forward to my birds arriving.

We lost one(browny) so the wife decided to enlarge the flock a little. Cute little peeps!
