...The Libertyâ„¢ is the largest stove made by Lopi. At only 2.6 grams of emissions per hour, it is also the cleanestburning large stove ever approved by the EPA. The Liberty has the biggest firebox of any large stove ..

Our beloved Englander 30NC has a larger box (3.5cf vs 3.1cf) and burns cleaner (1.6 vs 2.6 grams/hr).

The Lopi site appears to overstate it's standing with respect to these two parameters.

Or..what am Im missing here ?

Wonder if they were referring to only their stoves? My ancient stove burns cleaner than theirs does too lol.. Unless you have a smoke dragon most epa generation cat/secondary burn stoves burn clean.. The real only consideration would be efficiency in my opinion..

The full sentence reads "Featuring the largest firebox of any large stove, logs up to 24 inches in length can be loaded into the unit." I'm assuming they mean the length of the wood that it accepts not the cubic foot size of the stove. I have no idea even if the 24" would be the widest stove on the market, either way it's just sales BS and most of it should be taken with a grain of salt. Regardless Lopi steel stoves are right at the top of the heap.

Thats the quote I found from the website. Didnt find anything yet about "The Liberty has the biggest firebox of any large stove"

If you download the PDF brochure, its right there. "The Liberty has the biggest firebox of any large stove" They are leading in to the fact that it can hold a large log...24" But even if they said, "It holds a longer log than any other large stove" it would still be a fib.

So, yeah, I agree. Misleading. 2.6 grams per hour is very good for a stove that size. But in the real world, no one is gonna notice the difference between 4 gph, 3gph or 2gph. When compared to the 20-50 grams per hour of the smoke dragons, thats like saying a car will now get either 90MPG or 91MPG..all fluff

what kind of burn times to you get from your lopi ?

Measure you NC 30 fire box, I bet you won't come up with 3.5 cu ft. The Liberty is probably bigger.

All depends on how you define "burn times". This is very subjective imo, some say from the time yous strike a match till the time the last coal is out. I don't consider that burn time, I will say I can load the stove at 7am and have plenty of coals left for an easy reload with full size splits at 6 or 7 pm. Usable heat for my house before temps will start to plummet in the cold weather(teens/single digits) is around 6-8 hours, this is what I consider usable heat. For a medium sized stove I've been more than happy with it. I'd own the Liberty if it was a little deeper, I wish Lopi would have made it the same depth as the Endeavor.

I had my Liberty installed in 2007, and that web page info hasn't been changed since at least then...probably staler than that. I don't think they're trying to mislead anybody, I just think they've ignored or forgotten about updating the website info. I'm very happy with my Liberty. I'm sure it's not the "Perfect Stove", but what is? Rick

ETA: Besides, if you're so thrilled with your "beloved" 30-NC, why do you give a rip about what it says on the Lopi website?

sorry for asking - did not mean to offend

that is literally the same spiel in the old brochure that i saw back 10 yrs ago when I started in the biz. Those brochures were pretty old then. Lopi needs to update their info, mighta been true in 1990ish whenever they initially went to press with their current literature for the unit... which hasn't changed (cause the stove hasn't) since...

That would explain it.

Clearly i have too much time on my hands for reading about the stoves I dream about buying.

Dont worry about it, anyone offended by that has no business interacting with other humans. I doubt Rick was offended..just bein ornery. You were checkin out stoves, read something that didnt make sense, came to a place where folks come for wood stove answers and presented your question in a thorough and polite manner.

I'm sure they just dont have a clue over there. Hell, I just had one manufacturer send me new brochures with the $1500 tax credit still on it.

I wouldn't worry too much about fractions of a gram emissions per hour.
Laboratory test conditions and home use (where type and seasoning of wood can make such a difference) are miles apart.

Even different flue setups can make quite a difference too :)

The Blaze king Ultra takes a 24 inch log easily when placed east ,west even though Blaze King sells themselves short on their website. Them 24 incher rounds sure make for a long burn time. My 2 cents worth, thanks.

I have a Liberty, and my main complaint is that it is not deep enough front to back as I like to load N/S. If I get a good bed of coals started and load E/W with good size splits, and I damper down I will have heat all night and coals in the morning. I Like running the damper wide open with smaller loads as the glass stays cleaner. I am heating my 2200 sq ft house with it now. (Snowing right now so stove is stoked up) It does a pretty good job of heating the house, would be better if it was more centrally located instead of on the far end of the house.

I know im a newbie, but i have a Lopi Freedom and i love it. I do notice that the firebox is tapered in the back and wider in the front. Other than that it is a nice burner. It doesnt like anything but seasoned wood though as ive found.

No modern woodburners like anything but well seasoned wood, either expensive or cheap ones.

Burning green unseasoned wood is like spending a fortune on a Rolls Royce and trying to drive it on crude oil ;-)
